' Sheffield wed submit bid for city striker '

Carlos Carvahal's Sheffield Wednesday have made a bid to sign Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones, a club insider from Sheffield Wednesday has confirmed to Football League World.

Wednesday have tabled a bid for Kenwyne Jones

Thursday 20th August 2015

The Trinidad and Tobago international is one of the higher earners at Cardiff and with owner Vincent Tan making cutbacks this summer, there has been speculation about Jones all summer.

The 6ft 2in striker previously had a loan spell at Wednesday in 2004 and scored 7 times in 7 games and head coach Carlos Carvalhal has earmarked him as the man to fire them to promotion.

Wednesday have recruited well this summer under new ownership but they have failed to sign a proven striker at this level.

Wednesday's ambitious new owners are targeting a long-awaited return to the Premier League and they see Jones as a player who could aid their push, particularly as he achieved promotion with Bournemouth last season.

Cardiff manager Russell Slade will now have to decide whether to cash in on the Trinidad captain - he adds experience but his wages are a huge burden the Bluebirds.

I wouldn't grumble if this happened just as long as we got in another proven goalscorer immediately not on stupid wages

Agree.

ummm the reason that Slade isn't playing him from the start according to some on here is because he isn't fit :? even though he has played all summer in the Copa America so from that make your own assumption :thumbright:

Not playing him because 99.9% of our fans know he cannot play 90 mins even fully fit? there is the 0.1% who disagree at all cost!

Allan, Slade would rather play the headless chicken than Jones, for me, that says it all really

Probably right while I am optimistic even I am not sure of his motives for playing certain players all the time, but seriously jones is more useful as sub from 60mins

Jones did more in his 25 minute cameo than Revell did for his 65 minutes!

I counted Revell winning one header throughout his time on the pitch, doing very little otherwise as well and Jones was also our best defender when he came on!

Yes, I think this might be a 'goer', Steve and I'm sure there will be irons in the fire, as that will be a lot of money saved and we could get a pretty good replacement on less than half of Kenwyn's wages!

How much have they offered?

£12 and a packet of crisps?

If that's true I'd accept it considering his age and wages but only if we get a decent replacement

it all really comes down to where the money will go if it's reinvested and goes on a decent striker with half of Kenwynes wage but if it goes straight to tans pocket were then left with one target man and that's revell :laughing6:

this is what I worry about, I'm all for the club cutting costs but I think they are cutting back to much tbh, I think if we do accept a bid for any player I think the club will just pocket it tbh but with our debt it's a drop in the ocean the transfer fees we will receive, the only way we will clear the debt is to get back to the premier league

Do you really think Slade is capable of bringing a decent striker to the club because I don't

That's prob the most negative thing you've ever written well done your seeing things from two sides of the fence lol

Re: ' Sheffield wed submit bid for city striker '

Jones is prob our most influential striker and our only target man capable of scoring double figures. I wouldn't be devastated if we sold him but we'd have to buy a decent striker asap - and guess what they don't come cheap these days!

It is suggested by Wales Online that no bid has been made yet - verbally or in writing - and there has been nothing from Wednesday since an enquiry about a possible loan deal a week or so ago! They may bid, but so far it seems to be all rehashed paper talk.

no that's true, Slades signings seem to be lower championship quality or top league one quality
