Glass half full or empty?

Wed Aug 19, 2015 9:43 pm

I've read that we are unbeaten and seen it written a different way that we are 3 games without a win?
It's only our 4th league game of the season on Sat v Wolves but is the pressure already mounting for a much needed win.

I must confess to being a bit worried about our lack of firepower, the fact that we are reliant on the same squad means that we can't expect too much different from last season. Seeing Gunnarson reunited with Whittingham towards the end last night indicates Slade still thinks that could work?
We appear to not be too keen to use wingers, I was enthused by some of Kennedy's performances last season and thought he would improve further this season, but he seems to have fallen down the rankings.
It's stupid, but we are already at an important stage of the season, if we can win our next couple of games, we are in and around the top six. But lose and we are hovering around the bottom with pressure mounting?

I was inviting a debate to consider how crucial our next few games are already, this early in the season. ;)

Cheers for your valuable input

Sorry VL I was being facetious. I always like to be optimistic and people tell me there are signs of improvements since last year. They're right. Ralls has been a big influence and so has Digkakoi though hes still some way off full fitness. And when he does reach his optimum theres signs things may yet improve further because we have big players like Manga and Turner still to come in.

Nevertheless there are still the same old negatives lingering from last season. Despite Ralls and Digkakoi improving our midfield set up it still lacks creativity, pace, solidity and momentum. I would prefer to see Gunnarsson playing alongside Ralls and Diki because I think we would become more solid and effective. However that still doesnt answer the pace problem and ultimately I think we need a thrusting, pacy, midfield general with guile, tenacity and vision to come in and to marshall Ralls, Digkakoi, possibly Gunnardsson and Noone or Pilkington in a 4-5-1. However with the present set up this is unlikely to happen.

Upfront I still like Joe Mason and I think his game would develop if he had better support. Ravelle is definitely not the answer. Kenwynne looks likely to leave us if present reports are to be believed but I think he is useful off the bench allowing the manager to change tactics and style when necessary. However the president incumbent seems a bit like Maggie Thatcher on this score....''the gentleman is not for turning''

All in all I think when we take everything into account we are probably looking at midtable mediocrity at the end of the season and, considering Tan's stance at the moment, I think that's a half full outlook!

Hope this hasn't been too long

I have to say that's an excellent account and very much like I see things, Digkacoi seems to definitely offer us something different and I expected to see him holding allowing two other central midfielders to play further forward in support of a lone striker. Looks like Slade is sticking with the narrow 4-4-2 and I would tend to agree with your prediction of mid table. We don't have enough quality or firepower for top six but there are certainly at least three teams who are/will be worse than us. :bluescarf:
