Men of Harlech

Tue Aug 18, 2015 2:41 pm

Am I the only one that thinks the CCS would be a much more intimidating place if everyone in the ground knew and sang the words? It would improve the atmosphere before kick off so much. Despite the lyrics being on the big screen it seems that hardly any of our fans actually sing it?

A group of us were singing it with the words in the ninian in the Wimbledon game. It was a bit better, and its worth singing the words to anyway, I just don't think it adds as much to the atmosphere as some people think it would.

Hopefully I'm wrong, and it would make a huge difference, I just can't see it at the moment

Every city fan should know the words. It's fuking easy to learn. Would take 5minutes to memorise it. Just pure laziness not taking the time to learn such an important welsh-city song. Like you touched on. It would lift the whole stadium and players.....like when our fans started belting out national anthem during the qualifier.....the Belgium players seemed to freeze, and it gave our players and stadium a massive lift

Totally agree that all city fans should sing this - took me 5 minutes to learn the words.

Much better than that anti jack song and his dad :bluescarf: :sladeout:

I always sing it at the start but nobody else really seems to. I would love to get it going big style think it would benefit players if echoed around stadium when the game is slow and players need a lift

This is an old moan. I think we just have to accept its never going to happen. The words are put up on the big scoreboards and along the electronic advertising and still hardly anyone sings it.

Said this many times but it just doesn't happen sadly.

I even started a fb group lol

I always think this song is a bit of a dirge anyway with a monotous tune. Its made worse by lots of people singing " da di da di da da!"
How is that going to improve the atmosphere?
Yma o Hyd is more like an anthem and more likely to intimidate the opposition and let them know they are in another country. The chorus is simple and basically means whatever gets thrown at us we stand together .... We are still here in spite of everything - as afootball club and as a country.
This has been said lots of times before on here ......its a much better more inspiring song. GET IT SORTED SOMEONE!!

Pick and Shovel is the Cardiff song. I'm always upset its not sung continually and real loud. Its unique.

Not saying we should sing it but Land Of My Fathers in my opinion with the whole crowd singing could be pretty intimidating , when Wales beat England 30-3 the anthem was incredible!

Half of our fans won't even get off their seat or put their hands in the air for it let alone sing it

Did they put the words up at the Wimbledon game? They weren't put up at the Fulham game, which surprised me. We have a lot of passionless fans at the moment who don't get behind the team. :ayatollah:

A lot of people don't even know the words to our own national anthem nevermind Men of Harlech :laughing5: I do agree with you entirely though.

Even if the fans who don't know the words just DUHHHH'd their way through the song, I do think that the CCS would become an intimidating place for the away team and their fans too... A cracking atmosphere generated from Men of Harlech would get all City fans pumped up which may even increase the atmosphere throughout the whole game

All it needs is for a good few fans in a group to start the chant and eventually, it'll catch on... Just like any other chant

Men of Harlech stop your dreaming
Can't you see their spear points gleaming
See their warrior pennants streaming
To this battlefield
Men of Harlech stand ye steady
It cannot be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
Welshmen never yield
From the hills rebounding
Let this song be sounding
Summon all at Cambria's call
The mighty force surrounding
Men of Harlech on to glory
This will ever be your story
Keep these burning words before ye
Welshmen will not yield
