He has Cardiff City running through his veins, but former Bluebirds captain Jason Perry says it's time the board woke up and took a lead from their great rivals
Former Cardiff City captain Jason Perry has called on his old to start developing the sort of identity their bitter rivals Swansea City have created.

Having finished eighth in the Premier League and begun the new campaign well, the Swans seem light years ahead of the Bluebirds who remain marooned in mid-table of the Championship.

But Perry believes Swansea have stolen a march on Cardiff in more ways than just their respective league positions.
And he believes nothing will change in that respect until Cardiff owner Vincent Tan recruits fresh blood onto the board.

"When it comes to Swansea City I’ve been with Cardiff fans on the terraces, sung the songs and felt the anger," said Perry.

"But it’s also true that I have never spoken so highly about Swansea as I am now. Everything they do seems to be right.

"Academy players know the first team players and vice versa. That’s how it should be. The club’s strategy is the same throughout. They have an identity, the Swansea way.
"Cardiff don’t have that and until the thinking changes at board level it will stay the same.

"Vincent Tan needs to get somebody in at boardroom level who understands football.

"As soon as that happens you pull the Academy into the club’s overall thinking and challenge players to progress through age group teams to under-21 level.

"Right now it’s such a big job for a manager. Their priority is ensuring the first team do well and hence the club is bobbling along. While Cardiff are bobbling others are getting bigger, better and stronger."

why is it everyone say clubs should follow swansea model!? just because they are successful at a particular model doesn't mean any other club following it will succeed? if that was the case vast majority of clubs would do it but you don't see a rush to do so!

Folk might not want to hear it but he is correct. The club essentially is a business and is being run as such but like he says you need someone who has a good understanding of the way football works. They are miles ahead of us and with the Premier money they are getting they will be moving further ahead.
