Cardiff City's David Marshall in line for Blackburn Rovers return after West Bromwich Albion speculation

17 AUGUST 2015

BY TERRY PHILLIPS

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has confirmed Marshall is in his squad at Ewood Park, describing him as a 'top professional'

Goalkeeper David Marshall is in line to make his first appearance of the season for Cardiff City against Blackburn Rovers.

Marshall has competed his three-match suspension and will fly to the north of England with manager Russell Slade’s squad on Tuesday morning.

“David is in our squad and will be at Blackburn with us,” said Slade. “He has been training normally and is a top professional.

“He has been as good as gold during his suspension, despite speculation over an offer from West Bromwich Albion. He is focused and ready.”

Slade will start with Marshall or Simon Moore, who has played in both Championship matches so far and was the WalesOnline man of the match at Loftus Road.

The return of Marshall, one of the best goalkeepers in Championship football, to the Bluebirds squad is a massive boost for Slade.

Albion have gone quiet over their £4.5m off for Marshall and Slade admits he is happy for that to silence to continue.

Who would you start at Ewood Park?

Cardiff have made it clear they want £5m plus add-ons if Marshall is to join Premier League West Brom and Slade says: “Nothing has changed for eight days.

“From my point of view the longer that goes on the better.”

Let's not pop the cork just yet.

Hmmm, not the right decision IMO.

I would have kept Marshall away from first team duties. Think it would be best to leave him out of the squad until he goes, or until the window shuts.

Has to start with Moore surely, Chris.
Played well at QPR and until speculation goes away (close of transfer window) I wouldn't start Marshall

Lucky you're not the manager then mate.
Start with Marshall, he's the no.1. Moore has cost us 3 points already.

I'd rather start a young 'keeper who is focussed on Cardiff City than someone who's mind is likely to be elsewhere.

How has Moore cost us three points? He's cost us two if you mean Fulham?

Throughout this whole WBA episode, my spidey-senses have told me that Marshall is going nowhere. Having spidey-sense comes in very handy but going to the toilet can be a bit of a bind, on account of the 200 yards of web that shoots out of my arse when I go for a shit.

Yeah he made a couple of saves but he's a goalie. Marshall does that as well you know. Start with your best player and your no.1 the same as when Manga is fit. For me he comes straight back in regardless.

Andrew, I am a huge Marshall fan and I believe he adds to the team whenever he plays; hence my comment "Happy days!"

However, I see your thinking and IF there is a likelihood of Marshall going to WBA this week then yes, I would keep Moore in for continuity and (to give him) confidence. His one-handed save versus QPR was outstanding! :ayatollah:

Things could change rapidly, but the info I have is that this is far from a 'done deal' and Marshall and (importantly) his family are happy to stay in Cardiff this season and beyond

Hope all good with you, sir? I met up for a coffee with our mutual friend last week. It was great to catch up and may see you both on Saturday before the game

To me he should start. Slade says he's in the right frame of mind then that's fine.
Yeah 2 points. I meant we would have had 3 points as we would have won the game.
