Joe Ledley

Mon Aug 17, 2015 10:50 am

Right I haven't really been into football the past few years what with working away and other things but I'm actually starting to get back into it now, from what I've been reading there seems to be a lot of bad thoughts about joe Ledley ? Why ? I've seen things like "let him rot" on other posts

From the best of my knowledge he scored a belter against Barnsley, wanted a move to a champions league club so moved to Celtic and then wanted prem football so moved to palace, every time I see him play he seems to do his job. So why do people hate him so much ?

Please don't slate me either boys I've been out on a wild one all weekend and now I'm in work on break I feel like crying so please don't say anything horrible to me ;)

That was my response. I apologise to Ledley if ive got this wrong, my memory is a little clouded :old: But what I remember is, that our football club was in dire straits and Stoke wanted to pay good money for Ledley which would have gone some way to help clear some of our debts. Instead Ledley chose not to join Stoke but instead ran his contract down and joined Celtic so that he and his agent pocketed hefty signing on fees and the club got nothing. What pissed me off more, he got injured in his final season and City paid for him to be treated abroad.

He's coming home, he's coming home, Ledley's coming home.

You may well find that the Stoke transfer was cocked up by Jones and Ridsdale at the time ??

Why couldn't you ask the question within the original thread?? :?

Not too sure about the Stoke City bit. But you've got the rest of it right. The bottom line is that Ledley shafted us and I would never welcome him back. Anyway, I don't think he'll come back at least not until he's washed up and "wants to come home "

Who did he shaft? He did not shaft me or any other city fan I know. He wanted to stay at Cardiff hopeful of a promotion to the PL with his home town club, but it did not happen, not his fault. The Stoke transfer was probably messed up by Ridsdale and Jones. I thought he was not offered a new contract and when offered lots of money to go to Celtic where the football standard is much lower -remember he was suffering bad injuries (hip I think) at the time so the wear and tear of the Championship could have finished his career.
Would you stay in your present job if offered a lot more money for less work/responsibility, just because they wanted you to? I very much doubt it.

He was offered more money and a better contract , but still run his contract down to get even more money, and a very handsome signing on bonus, you are also wrong about Jones & Ridsdale if Stoke had offered the money then City would have snapped their hand off, we were desperate for money at the time, so there is no way with Inland revenue threatening to close us down would we not have accepted it.

No doubt the club needed the money but would he pass a medical at Stoke ?
Celtic did not have so much of a worry as he was essentially free and not so much demand on his body in their league.

Didnt he have the same agent as Matthews?

Re: Joe Ledley

Ledley did have the same Agent as Mathews. a slimy individual who persuaded them to sign for Celtic. Ledley, in particular, deliberately ran down his contract which meant that Celtic would not have to pay us anything, thereby freeing up more money to give to him and his agent. So much for Ledley's so-called love for his home town club. I am not sure who is worse though. Judas Ledley or the suckers who stick up for him.

you're wrong there, mate.

there was no contract offer on the table, and also there was no offer from Stoke. Our club couldn't offer a contract, as they were on the edge of going bust again, and other clubs knew that. That's why they didn'toffer anything.

When Celtic came in, they offered a good contract, and Joe did what all professional footballers do.

Nothing wrong there at all, it was our club and our officials to blame, not Ledley.

Ledley did take the 60 pieces of silver and on the one hand maybe you can't blame him. Just as long as he doesn't say how much he loves his home town club when he knew we were hard pressed financially and could have done with the transfer money. We would have got that if he was under contract and had signed for an English Premier League club. It is not as if we would have stood in his way. Far from it. But don't worry he'll be back one day making all the right noises when no-one else wants him. That jerk Bodin tried that one on us, I recall.
