The curious case of Kenwyne Jones
By Nathan Blake
Monday 17th August 2015
Then there’s Kenwyne Jones. He must be wondering what’s going on a little sat on the bench again, even if he did get half hour at the end as part of the comeback.
If you get Kenwyne in the right frame of mind then he is a massive asset to this side but if he’s not mentally there you couldn’t blame him because it’s been made to look over the last four or five months he’s surplus to requirements.
For me though he proved his worth with Bournemouth, did well with his country in the Gold Cup, someone who can score, make things happen and deliver at the top level, a star in his own mind at least and would have been itching to start the season well.
I’ve thought he’s been played out of his best position by Slade in a slightly deeper role which hasn’t helped him but there’s one thing he can do is frighten defenders. For me – and it’s only an opinion – I’d put him with Joe Mason in a No.10 role who I think would thrive in and among bodies, use that quickness of mind he’s got and movement with Jones dropping the ball to him.
He can pull people out of position, play his one-twos, but you’re not going to get the best out him with the balls behind. You saw that a little with one half chance he had where he had to take it early because he didn’t have the confidence he was going to get away from the defender.
Look, Slade is in there every day with his coaching team, people like Paul Trollope and Scott Young, and sees more than I do.
But there’s still that problem offensively and any side has to look at how you get the best out your best players and the most out of your personnel – and it might need a change of shape.
It’s blatantly obvious the side aren’t working the keeper enough – it’s not been a case of wondering what would’ve happened if the strikers had taken their chances, which QPR might have been thinking on Saturday night.

I heard he came back from the Caribean 7-10lbs over his target weight, and he hasn't played a full game yet because of this.

If you remember last season, Jones was man of the match several times and then dropped to the bench or left out of the squad. It appeared as though they were trying to unsettle him and encourage him to ask for a transfer.
It was bizarre how he was our top goal scorer, stand out performer on the pitch but still dropped. That was backed up by the fact that he was offloaded to Bournemouth on loan. It appears as though the club just want shot of Jones purely based on money and not what he can bring to the team. It appears as though money is more important than ambition, progress and promotion.
He did very well for Trinidad in the summer. It will be interesting to see if Slade makes him a regular in the team or whether the club are still trying to offload him. That may well be difficult because of his wages.

Surely most agree on here while he's class act in this div he cannot last 90mins! so surely 2nd half sub is best for team? Whether it is for Kenwyn is another matter?

I'd always have him in team different class

Guerra is not going to get a game so Jones as the best striker at the club must surely start and then take him off when the time is right. Pointless bringing him when we are chasing the game, let's start with the strongest 11.

I think once he's on we are one dimensional and if we can just take some the chances created then he may not need to be brought on,his lack of energy and work rate keeps him out the team it's as simple as that of he can improve that then he'd start every week

"For me though he proved his worth with Bournemouth, "
Correct me if I'm wrong he scored one goal and did not start one match being named as sub for every game.
Typical Blake shit

Exactly! We should be using him the same, when ur chasing a game he can be a nuisance by launching it into him but u don't want to see that all game, the ppl calling for Jones to start will be the first ones moaning we are hoofing it too

He should partner up with Mason.

He should be starting, along with Noone and Fabio.

Agree. Once he becomes match fit - like Dikacoi - he should last the 90 minutes.
Always pick your best 11 to start.

He's shit. Good for nothing. Will never do anything.
A la Rudy Gestede.
