Macheda and Jones

Tue Aug 11, 2015 12:14 pm

Am I the only one that thinks Mason is over rated, he looked slow and showed a lack of strength on Saturday, I think if we start with Macheda and Jones in majority if matches they have the pedigree to get us promoted.
Also I would drop whitts and move Ralls into the middle and that frees up Noone or Adeomi on the left.

Totally agree with you're posting, but be prepared for the abuse from the usual suspects

Huge Whitts fan but where we play him depends on the strikers.

If we keep Jones and play him as a single striker then Whitts is a must. If we play 442 with Mason, Macheda or Revell then we must move Whitts out left and move Ralls inside. Non scoring (two) strikers is mad and we'll need to shore up the midfield and no way can you play an out and out winger like Noone in a 442.

If we can't move Jones then i would play

Ameobi.....Jones (Macheda).......Noone

Ralls.....Dikichoi......Whitts

back 4...

But Mr 442 won't change

I liked the look of Revell and Macheda last season in all honesty. Revell the work horse, Macheda the technique kind of striker

I think the opposition liked the look of them as well.

Very perceptive. Macheda is one of the laziest, most useless players I have ever seen in a City shirt. On a par with Andy Kerr, Rhys Weston, Andy Gorman and not forgetting Leighton Maxwell.

He may not be everyone's cup of tea , but Macheda as certainly enough skill and can score goals at this level.
Mason is slow won't score enough and is very weak.
I agree Jones and macheda will frighten a lot of defences, with ameobi just behind and pilkington KG and Ralls in midfield . Will be quite a good option in this division. But can't see Slade playing all them together,He's more of a safety first manager.

Really? Because Macheda scored vs Charlton and Brentford, Revell scored vs Brentford, when they played together. :ayatollah: :thumbright:

Agree with the comments on Mason. I really don't think he's the answer, despite scoring a few pre season goals. If he was that good he would have been snapped up by teams who've had him on loan. I don't even think he got much football and spent lots of time on the bench on one of his loan spells.

Heaven help us if we end up with that lazy git Jones up front though!

Without doubt the worse two strikers at the club. Ravel is not a Championship player and had a shocking game on Saturday. Macheda is probably the laziest player that I have seen playing for City over the last decade. He does no running off the ball, wins nothing in the air because he does not jump and he cannot hold the ball up.

I cannot see Mason ever being a prolific goal scorer and we will be lucky if he hits double figures this season.
Would like to see Jones & Doyle start up from but could ideally do with someone like Dwight Gayle (with a bit of pace).

And of course Kenwyn Jones!

Wouldn't work.

Mason has excellent work-rate. I'm a fan of Kenwyne Jones but his work-rate is poor most of the time, and Macheda is even worse on that front.

Kenwyne and Macheda have never played well when they've played together.

Macheda has done very little to impress since joining the club. He did well for Doncaster and Birmingham, but hasn't seemed to find his feet at Cardiff yet. Big season for him to impress but I would imagine Mason, Jones, Ameobi, Doyle and, for some reason I'll never understand, Revell are all above him in the pecking order.

I still think Mason and Jones is our best option.

I agree apart from the comment about Mason.

I don't think he works hard enough. He doesn't run the channels which makes it easy for CBs to mark him and difficult for our midfielders to pick him out.

I think Doyle makes more of those runs but, like Mason, lacks that dynamic pace we need.

I would like to see Jones and Doyle from the players we have but ideally a new, nippy striker alongside Jones is what we need.

I'm pretty sure they tried this pairing out last season. I presume Slade wasn't impressed.

Macheda is a quality striker who needs a run of games when he comes back he was banging them in until he got injured. :thumbright:
