UPDATED
Talks between the two sides have been ongoing since last month, with a £5 million transfer seemingly in the pipeline. However, last week the deal slowed down, and it appeared as if Tony Pulis was content to stick with Boaz Myhill in goal - at least until Ben Foster returns from injury.

Myhill took to the field for West Brom’s opening Premier League fixture with Manchester City on Monday night, and showed little to suggest he is the quality needed to push the club forwards.

Tuesday 11th August 2015

West Bromwich Albion are set for a new bid to snatch goalkeeper David Marshall away from Cardiff City.

Talks between the two clubs on a proposed £5m transfer cooled over the last week, but the Bluebirds are bracing themselves for a new approach from the Baggies.

Marshall sits out Cardiff’s League Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon tonight and will then have served two fixtures in his three-match suspension imposed after the Scot was sent off at Nottingham Forest in the final match of last season.

If Marshall moved to the Hawthorns later this week he would only have to miss Albion’s match at Watford and could play against Chelsea at home in their following game.

Cardiff are adamant they want £5m plus add-ons for Marshall, who has said he would like to play Premier League football again, while Albion’s best offer so far is £4.5m.

Bluebirds’ manager Russell Slade would move quickly to find a replacement for Marshall if he joins West Brom and has already identified probable targets.

But the chances of Albion’s Wales international goalkeeper Boaz Myhill joining Cardiff look remote.

Myhill, who played in West Brom’s 3-0 defeat against Manchester City on Monday, is their only senior goalkeeper with current first choice Ben Foster ruled out until October at least by a knee injury.

Pulis has talked about his interest in Marshall, saying: “He’s a goalkeeper we would like to bring in to the football club. The two clubs have to agree and the player has got to agree, it’s not that simple.
“We’re not one of the big four or five clubs who can go out and say ‘they want X amount so we’re going to pay that.’

“Bo is the only senior keeper we have available so it’s important we get a player in

I will be shocked if we keep him, City just holding out for a bit more.

The problem i see is whether Puillis will be prepared to guarantee Marshall First team football when Forster is fit
if not it could jeopardise his Scotland place :sladein:

i dont think he will go the more this drags on,marshall wont want to mess up his scotland position and playing for us and us doing well will guarantee his place, id prefer to get kenwyn off the payroll and see what we can sign for those wages, dwight gayle for me or your man byrne from swindon if we are tight for cash

Good luck to Marshall if he goes, my concern is that tan won't allow Slade to get in a replacement. Cardiff have done very little business and the 19m in parachute money we have this season seems to have disappeared into tan;s pockets along with the other fees we've recieved for the players sold.

Why would Marshall, playing at a higher level jeopardise his international career, unless you're assuming he won't be playing regularly, an assumption you can't possibly make

well when foster comes back then marshall will be sat on the bench possibly not like pulis can guarantee him to start and then there will be others starting every week in the frame its not 100% that would happen but its a gamble he would be taking if he goes

Like someone said, he has got a match ban still going on so why pay him 30-50k when hes banned? They will wait.

£19m will barely cover the wage bill. Remember, each player earning £20,000 a week is earning a million pounds a year. Kenwynne double that. Marshall, Fabio, Whitts, Bruno, Pilkington and Morrison are the ones I can think of off the top of my head who will be on that sort of money. Add on Kenwynne and that's £7m accounted for immediately. Parachute payments are there to cover your commitments, not build a new team.

they will not forego a player they want over £500k. its just whether we will hold our nerve to get the £5m if thats what we are asking at the moment.

it wouldn't be a good deal for us to do IMO. as we've had him for so long many people take marshall for granted. last saturday marshall wouldn't have made that error. there are other ways to cut the expenditure that wouldn't harm us as much.

Pointless selling him unless its going to be invested to push for promotion.

Evening all, I hope you don't mind a Baggie visiting? The Marshell transfer struck me as strange to begin with. As Cardiff wanted Myhill on Loan, who as our No.1 we would never have gone for that. The thing is I don't think Pulis rates Foster that much. He sold him when they were both at Stoke. Now Foster's until late this year and it could be early Next year. So we do need a No. 2. It does look like Pulis is going go for a Myhill/Marshall combination. Anyway Good luck tonight against Wimbledon. I'm glad you're back in Blue. I wish you good luck for the rest of the season

Pointless selling him on 31aug as well! Can't buy anyone especially as the club says need to sell before buying. :old:

You get the impression this will happen though!!
I'm in the camp of keeping Marshall if we can but wishing him well if he goes. I'm also not convinced by either of our keepers. Saw Wilson last night and although he didn't have much to do he looked about the same height as Fabio!

First thing to say,is that you got a dammed good manager in Pullis ,only wish we had him instead of the incompetent manager we have, next thing to tell you is that Marshall is one of the better shot stopper's around, its also fair to say that he has shortcomings in other areas..hope you have a good season
