Russell Slade on Marshall to West Brom latest...

"There is not too much of a latest. There has been no dialogue in recent days between the two clubs so there is no more information.

"The numbers have to be right of we are going to lose him. We all respect him and want him to stay.

"It is financial though, and if the money is right we will have to consider it. The chairman is dealing with it and he will let me know."

"There interest could have cooled. If there had been activity worth reporting the chairman would have spoken to me about it."

Why Cardiff may need to sell Marshall?

“Of course you have to balance the books, don’t you? At the end of the day it’s about finances. It does not necessarily mean we can’t do any signings right now. It does not mean that. But obviously, if you were to target someone of a certain value we would have to look at that seriously in terms of the numbers.

"If the numbers were too high. If we don’t have that finance available then we would not be in a position to move on that despite finding someone we think might be suitable."

Q: ‘If you want to bring in a big player does that mean you would have to sell Marshall?

“That probably would be the case, yes.”

Pre-season verdict

"I’m really pleased with pre-season, a lot of detail went into it.

"We’re in a good place. It’s about fitness levels getting to acceptable levels. The games have come on top of that and we have made progress in those. It was a good end to last season too."

"The signs are promising and encouraging. We have a structure and the players know what is required. There is unity and the conduct is strong. It feels like everyone is pulling in the same direction and buying into what we do. There is a trust there now."

More on potential signings...

"The window is still open for a month. Things can change but there was not an awful lot of work we had to do. Maybe we would like a couple more additions or even one.

"Within the group of players we have now, Dikgacoi and Pilkington didn't play much last year so having them back is a bit of a bonus.

"They are good players who we did not see much of last season."

Slade confirms the club are trying to offload Etien Velikonja, Filip Kiss and Javi Guerra.

He reveals Guerra's potential move to Malaga has fallen through but there could be another Spanish club interested.

Sean Morrison's big prediction...

"We can definitely push for promotion. If we carry on top six form from last season and with this squad there is no reason we can’t be top six or go for automatic as well.

"Last season was difficult, there were a lot of changes. We are now a solid group of players and have a core group. We've had a good six weeks on the training pitch."

I hope he doesn't make Sean Morrison captain.

He might decide to do a huge shit on the pitch to celebrate.
