" SIMON MOORE "

Opinions, can he do Marshalls jobs?

With Marshall being linked with West Brom and suspended for the first three games of the season anyway, Moore has patiently bided his time to be No. 1

The spotlight might be on David Marshall’s ‘will he or won’t he’ move to West Brom, but one man, who has patiently bided his time in the shadows, insists he is ready to step out into the sunshine for Cardiff City.

Whatever the future of Marshall, with the Baggies and the Bluebirds apparently haggling over a fee for the Scottish international, goalkeeper Simon Moore is set to get his moment of glory or three in fact, as he starts Cardiff’s Championship season opener against Fulham this weekend and then at least two more matches with the club’s acknowledged number one suspended for the first three fixtures.

Moore, who arrived in the Welsh capital from Brentford in July 2013, has found himself very much eclipsed by Marshall over the last two years having to head out on a loan spell at Bristol City in early 2014 just to actually see some pitch time.

But the 25-year-old shot-stopper did make a breakthrough of sorts with the Bluebirds last term, making 10 league appearances under boss Russell Slade as Marshall saw his season marred with injury.

It would be fair to say Moore passed the audition, putting in a string of creditable showings along the way.

And whatever happens to the man he admits he learned much of his craft from, Moore now believes he is ready to stake a claim to ensure this time around he makes even more of an impression on the Bluebirds’ first team.

Have you been impressed with Simon Moore since he has come in for David Marshall?

“I’m excited just to get the opportunity to be honest,” said Moore, looking ahead to the highly-anticipated visit of the Cottagers on Saturday.

“Before the Fulham game there won’t be any extra nerves, I will just be normal. There will be a bit of nervousness, but I always say it’s good to have a few nerves. It gets the adrenalin pumping. I’m excited and looking forward to it.

“I’ve been at Cardiff for two years, I was third choice when I arrived, and it has been very difficult. I knew I would have to be patient and bide my time. When you’ve got a goalkeeper of David Marshall’s quality ahead of you, it’s always going to be very hard."

Moore added: “‘Marshy’ is one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet though and I’ve got such a lot of respect for him as a goalkeeper. I do look up to him and it’s a pleasure training with him every day and learning from him.

"He’s the best in the Championship and could easily play in the Premier League, I actually thought he was the best goalkeeper in the Premier League the season Cardiff were there. He was so consistent, never high, never low, just in between. That’s important as a goalkeeper because you are kind of on your own in that position.

“But last season he was out injured for a while and I got my chance. Marshy actually texted me wishing me all the best for those games. That’s what he is like.

“I got my opportunity and I thought I did fine in those games. People were nice about how I played which I was glad of. It was really my first taste of Championship football.

"It gives you a taste and that’s great, but then you want to be playing Championship football week in and week out.”

I'm glad we've got a great back up in Moore, it's his time to shine now and I think he'll do a great job for us this season as it's pretty much nailed on that Marshy will go.

If Marshall goes, then go and get Julian Spironii, good solid PL goalkeeper that is now third choice at the Palace, and would only cost about a Mil :bluebird:

I think Moore will get better and better over time and possibly as good as Marshall keepers don't reach their peak until their late twenties don't they normally. :thumbright: :sladein: :ayatollah:
