Any fans returning for the first time tomrw?

Fri Aug 07, 2015 6:34 am

Just wondered now we are back in blue and we have IMO an improved badge this season (albeit the yellow is missing) will any fans be returning for the first time in 3-4 years. I know we switched back to blue during the last campaign but now it seems more authentic because we are starting the season in this kit. Not to mention a few changes in the stadium to blue eg, the dugout seats and some of the advert boards etc. would be interested to hear your story if you haven't been to watch the city for a few years and this is your first game back. We witnessed a few fans stay away because they couldn't bear to see what was happening to thier beloved cardiff City and a return to blue would mean a return for them. Would love to hear from these fans - must be exciting to be coming back etc.

A few I know seem to have lost the bug completely and now do other things, seems to be an easy habit to drop. Football has changed beyond recognition these days, maybe if things improve from last season a few might come but I don't even think the lure of the premier league means anything nowadays, in fact it's the opposite......just sayin

I agree that football has changed and doesn't seem the same anymore but I wonder sometimes whether that is because I've changed - not football. When your a kid/youngster it's almost abit magical but as you get older sometimes it hard not to hear about the politics within a football club (the interesting but quite frankly boring side of it all). I think if you can ignore that side of things, it does keep the football 'bug' alive.

Today is a 24 hour entertainment society and football has to compete with everything else that is on offer. The die hards will always turn up, but your average fan won't, because he wants to be entertained.

Many I know have lost interest because the period they have been away has shown them that there is better things to spend your money on. Many have taken up personal fitness and go to different places and doing different things like mountain biking and so on.

IMO the rebrand lost the club a generation between the ages of around 35-45

Think that some have lost interest, some just use any excuse not to go, some just won't go why we need competing for promotion, that's just the way it is. What I find hard to understand, are those that no longer go, butblovecto come on message boards and have a dig when things not going well, sad people.

I use ot always get a lift down from here in Derby be it someone up North picking me up or me having to go a bit down to get a lift. Very rare I had to drive alone.

Now not one of my contacts go. Yes its easy to give it up when you live away but to this extent the re-brand has seriously damaged the ex pat support the club got.

There are many reasons fans have fallen out of love with the club.
I've been noticing over the last few weeks, the lack of board members on line is significantly down.
Before I posted this there were only 1 1/2 lines of members viewing. On the eve of the team's first home game of the season, I would expect hundreds? :(

Agreed brownie. I know many like this sadly.

This is exactly what I'm noticing, that age group etc who have been with us since they were young ones in the 80's.
It's not about entertainment either as let's face most of the time it wasn't happening, but it was all about having a laugh, I don't mean bother as 90% of the time there was none. I think we loved the terracing and a bit of atmosphere, pay in the day etc..it's all too organised and boring to be honest. Maybe we have all changed like someone else said, you just grow out of it. It wasn't just the games and the club though was it? It was the clothes, the shops, the culture etc...it was a scene. Like the rave scene, it was all amazing for a while but everything has its day I guess....

Alot of my mates stopped going when we left ninian Park because it's a shit crack down the CCS and you get kicked out for farting. It's a completely different day out now and the rebrand wad just the icing on the cake

I think this post hits the nail firmly on the head Adam.

It's a shame that everyone agrees with me on this one. You can see all the lads on social media who you used to go to the football with just do different things on the weekend since the rebrand

My love for the club took a bad knock with the rebrand. I was there today, and thought the match was alright. Great goal from Noone. I probably won't get my ST back, but watch a few matches a season.

I stopped going in 2012 following the rebrand after being ST holder and passionate City fan for 25 odd years.

Returned a few times following rebrand reversal in January but tbh, felt nothing for the club. Bond broken etc.

I went yesterday and although I genuinely wasn't bothered by the result, I really enjoyed a good attacking second half of football.

Like others, I'll go again occasionally when I've got nothing else on but the days of booking holidays to avoid the season, booking days off work for away games etc are long gone. I must have been mad! I'm a customer these days and I'll add the odd game at CCS to the list, along with trips to Penydarren Pk, Edgar St, Rodney parade and any other random grounds that I fancy seeing some football at.

It's very clear to me for the ilks like yourself the real answer is the removal of Tan.

For some fans who stayed away/continue to stay away, I'm sure that's the case. Personally, my time away from the club allowed me to see just what a waste of time (and money) being a dedicated week in, week out supporter is. Particularly when the object of your affection typically treats you in such an a disrespectful and offhand way.

There was also so much bad feeling over the rebrand, whether between fans and the club or worse still between fellow supporters. It's old news but it's difficult to forget the deep and wide spread cynicism and outright hostility towards the small minority of us who valued the clubs traditions and tried to do something about it. Having said all of that, I no longer feel that a Cardiff City match is something to be avoided and I'll take in the odd game when it suits me.

I certainly wouldn't class my myself as a Cardiff City supporter any more though but maybe that'll change. For now, I'm happy enough to be a casual customer :thumbright:
