Wales are expected to move up to ninth in the rankings on Thursday, and they are set to overtake England next month
Wednesday 5th August 2015
Wales’ Euro 2016 hopefuls will scale even greater heights when the new world rankings are released on Thursday – and are set be confirmed as the best of Britain ahead of old rivals England next month.
The unbeaten march on qualification has already seen Chris Coleman’s men leap ahead of former world champions Italy, France and Spain in the game’s global standings.
And now, the new rankings set to be confirmed by Fifa on Thursday are set to show Wales have moved ahead of another European superpower the Netherlands as part of their incredible recent resurgence.
Rankings expert Eduard Ranghiu – who has successfully predicted Wales place in the top-10 and their resulting top seed spot for the recent World Cup draw – has worked out Coleman’s side will move up to a highest-ever position of ninth when the August standings are revealed, with the Dutch dropping out of the top-10.
Despite no games being played over the past month, the change will come as a result of the devaluing of past points gained by the Netherlands during their run to the 2014 World Cup semi-finals.
And it is the same system that could be set to see Wales leap in front of the Three Lions for the first time in their history when the next month’s standings are released on September 3 – just hours before the huge qualifier with Cyprus.
It could provide the perfect boost for Bale and fellow Wales stars Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Williams as they look for victory in Nicosia to set up the opportunity of sealing qualification in Cardiff just three days later.
Wales welcome Israel to Cardiff City Stadium, the game already a sell-out, knowing a win on the back of three points in Cyprus will book their place in next summer’s finals in France and ending the national side’s exile from a major tournament in more than half a century.

who are these sides then?
bit of a silly thing to say, played Belgium 3 times in the last 2 years and they havent scored past us, havent lost a game in the last year while some of these so called better sides have.
How would you do the rankings then?

Agree with the last post unbeaten for 12 months so deserve our ranking. The system isn't perfect and if we don't beat Cyprus we will fall down the table as quickly as we went up it. If we beat them and Israel we will cement our top 10 ranking.
