Russell Slade to name Cardiff City captain for new season within next few days
Thursday 30th July 2015
Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has revealed that he will make a decision on his side's captain for the 2015-16 campaign within the next few days.
Goalkeeper David Marshall was given the Bluebirds captaincy last season, but the South Wales side struggled for outfield leadership and will have to play the first three games of the new campaign without the Scottish international due to suspension.
With Cardiff's opening fixture against Fulham just over one week away, manager Slade is now considering his options for the armband.
"There is every chance David will be captain again, but we have to look at the situation," he told reporters.
"He is out for our opening Championship fixture against Fulham, plus two more games. Sean Morrison was captain against Watford and he has done it when Aron Gunnarsson has not been available. We will make a decision over the next few days."
Ben Turner and former Huddersfield Town captain Lee Peltier have also been mooted as potential candidates for the role.

Although I think Marshall is great, I think the captaincy sits better with an outfield player. Turner has been injury prone, and Morrison may not be a regular in the team once Turner and Manga are fit. Therefore, between Peltier and Gunnarsson. I think Peltier, as he has experience of the role, and having Gunnar as captain makes it harder to take him off to reorganise the midfield in the middle of a game.
Peltier for me, then.

Peltier or gunners.

Gunners for me, the only one I hear shouting from the stand usually.

Gunners or Turner, if Manga had strong English I would have him.

international captain and would be a very good choice imo - may not have had his best season last year but that's a bit disrespectful of a committed Bluebird mate

sorry but I've said on here before, this love in with someone who has had two poor seasons, does not bring much, doesn't create anything, guaranteed a first team place every game (so it seems) and juts because he's better than many in the iceland squad is not a dream ticket to captaining a championship side.
I just think we have hung on to him too long, we need a god in midfield, box to box and tackles.
Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. saw better in every game last year on the opposition, and in the lower leagues.

I think a captain's role will bring the best out of him. I agree he hasn't had the best of times recently but still a good player on his day. Time will tell but I would start the season with him as captain.

We all need a god in our lives brother.
I have a feeling Slade will go for Marshall again. Hope I'm wrong.

I have to agree with Arri Potta... Gunnarssson gives his all but has not enough pace...see too many players go pass him...last two seasons has not been consistent...about time we beefed up the midfield with some pace...ralls good on the ball but doesn t have the pace
