Surely that can be said of any game? We won 10 home games in a row in the 2012/13 season and then duly lost 4-1 to bottom club Peterborough and it was not a fluke result they deserved the win.

I like everyone else went to that game expecting an easy win but as football is 'bonkers' it didn't happen, even though it was a competitive game and not a friendly.

I agree that results are irrelevant but what players do, how they conduct themselves, how much effort they put in and how formations in the play develop are all indicators of how the start of the season might pan out.

You can certainly discount the result but don't fool yourselves, these are important parts of development in preperation for the season ahead.

I watch then carefully and analyse what goes on for that very reason. What's the point in having them otherwise.

f**k off you tw*t!!! Lol friendlies these days are just another way of generating money off season ticket holders and help get the players back in fitness. No other reason whatsoever

You don't have to buy any of that. I go to a football match to watch the football, and that part was free. :ayatollah:

Bit confused as you originally claim those who 'judge' friendlies are 'bonkers?'

Now it seems that its those who attend friendlies are generally bonkers because they may spend some money doing something they enjoy?

No wonder you have problems recruiting cleaners

Are you seeing something in my messages that I can't see ? You do know that my comment was a response to another posters comment.

Friendlies are a waste of time and people who think that their team is going to do well or badly judging on the performances in friendlies are bonkers. The comment regarding finances, is it or is it not true that all friendlies aren't all free ?

Friendlies are for the managers benefit to assess fitness and see how certain players play together in a competitive environment.

The result is pretty much immaterial, unless we get absolutely slaughtered. They are necessary though.

Friendlies mean absolutely nothing to me. All you have to do is go back to a few years ago when Newcastle lost 7 something to some ridiculous team in the lower leagues when they had a full team out and then they won the bloody league.

Leyton Orient 6-1 Newcastle United (pre-season friendly) - just look at that team!

The same season they won the Championship.

so if the club lets in season ticket holders for free then where does that leave your theory?

Pre-season friendlies have always been not much more than a training session and have no bearing at all on what will happen once the real season gets under way.

Friendlies early on in pre season don't mean shit. They're just to start getting the fitness up. The closer we get to opening day, the more pre season friendlies do matter in my oppinion though. Take the Watford game for instance.....that was probably close to our starting line up for the season opener, and probably the way we are going to setup. I didn't go to the game, but followed it on here, and it seemed (from posts) we had our war paint on for that one. So probably gave us a good idea of how we are going to kick off our season
