Quality is still there

Wed Jul 29, 2015 6:12 pm

Just thinking about the squad we could take into the season proper and I still believe that it's capable of reaching the play-offs. If we get rid of some more deadwood and bring in one more signing then I think we will be in top shape ready for the season. This is the squad I think we should have:

Goalkeepers

David Marshall
Simon Moore
Ben Wilson

Marshall and Moore are quality keepers and would get in any Championship side. Wilson is still in experienced but I would keep him as back up this year. Play Moore whilst Marshall is banned.

Right backs

Lee Peltier
Fabio

Peltier is solid and one of Slade's good signing's. He would be first choice for me. Fabio could deputise but I prefer him in the left back slot.

Centre backs

Bruno Ecuele Manga
Sean Morrison
Matthew Connolly
Semi Ajayi
Ben Turner

Get rid of:

Ben Nugent (on loan)
Jordan Blaise (on loan)

Keep 5 quality centre backs and have Peltier and Thomas James as back up. We are strong in this area and I'm confident in our defence that we will keep clean sheets next year. So pleased that we as keeping Bruno.

Left backs

Fabio
Scott Malone

Get rid of:

Declan John (on loan)

Fabio would certainly be my first choice in this area because of his passion and energy on the left. Tough choice between Malone and Declan but I think Malone edges it defensively. Joe Ralls can provide adequate emergency cover.

Centre Midfielders

Aron Gunnarson
Peter Whittingham
Kashigo Dickajoi
Stuart O Keefe
Joe Ralls
Tommy O Sullivan

Pleased we git rid of Adeyami. He was poor last season. We could go to 5 in midfield away from home and add a bit of steel. A certainty to start against Fulham would have to be Joe Ralls, bit I can't choose who to partner him.

Left wing

Anthony Pilkington
Sammy Ameobi

Pilkington is in sizzling form and will be like a new signing for the new campaign. Ameobi is also a quality addition. Joe Ralls and Whitts are also there if needed.

Strikers

Kenwyne Jones
Joe Mason
Federico Macheda
Eoin Doyle

Get rid of:

Rhys Healy (on loan)
Alex Revell (for sale)

Purchase: Frazier Campbell

Our strike force looks very good with Macheda and Kenwyne returning, Doyle with a proven record and Mason on fire. If we signed Campbell or loaned him we would have the best strike force in the league, or certainly one of them. Get rid of Revell, he's a donkey who can't jump.

Fair play to you for your positivity but if you honestly believe that exactly the same squad with exactly the same manager can suddenly transform from mid table absolute mediocrity to automatic promotion after one pre season and with one addition to the squad then you are seriously deluded.

What about the right wing position? Will we still be pushing for promotion with 10 men a game?

But in all honesty I have every faith in the squad we currently have. Mason up top with Kenwynne could work very well. And with Pilks and Ameobi on the wings that will cause plenty of problems. And we've got the ability to change it up with the abundance of good CM we have. Our central defence is probably the best in the league, and with Malone's recent performances in pre season hopefully he could sure up the left hand side of the defence. And Peltier is as safe as house normally. So if what Slade's saying is correct that our fitness levels are very high and the togetherness of the group is very strong, I can't see why we could not be aiming for the play offs at least. If we get through the first 7 games with roughly 15 points I think we will be in a good position.
