Kenwyne Jones a 'big part' of Cardiff's plans, says Russell Slade
Kenwyne Jones remains a "big part" of Cardiff City's plans, according to manager Russell Slade.
Jones is expected to return to training on Wednesday for the first time this summer after being on international duty with Trinidad and Tobago.
The 30-year-old striker was loaned to Bournemouth at the end of last season and said he did not know if he was wanted by Cardiff.
But Slade said: "He's our player and a big part of what we are trying to do."
Jones played every minute of every match for his country at the Gold Cup, held in America and Canada in July, as the Soca Warriors reached the quarter-finals.
Ten days after losing to Panama on penalties in the last eight, his fitness will now be assessed by Cardiff before Slade decides whether to involve him in Friday's final pre-season friendly at Premier League newcomers Bournemouth.

Jones at his best (in tandem with Mason) would be a force to be reckoned with this season
A refreshed, injury-free Macheda would be a huge bonus, too!

I agree. If those 3 can hit the ground running then along with Ameobi and Doyle we could have a seriously good strike force. Quality is still there.

Good without his goals last season we would of been relegated , he's also 1 of the best players we have at defending corners

Never worth that much but he is a big presence and will scare the life out of defenders when they see a big unit running at them

Taking Guerra and Le Fondre out of the equation because they are not going to get a game then Jones is by far the best striker at the club.
Yes, his wages are very high but he was the top scorer last season even though he was not played every game. He is a menace in the air where he wins nearly every ball, can hold the ball up and is an excellent defender at set pieces. I cannot work out why so many fans get on his back. Yes not the most mobile but he is a big bloke and leaves Macheda behind by a mile when it comes to effort. Should spearhead the attack with Doyle/ Mason playing off him. Clearly a different set up away from home with. 4-5-1.

I assume the first line is not part of the BBC article and is just a repeat of what has been said many times before?
Firstly how do we know his weekly wages is after tax. Could it just as easily be £37k to £45k a week BEFORE tax.
Secondly IF his, much publicised wages, are after tax then the cost to CCFC would be a hell of a lot more than £50k. It would be more around £66k....... NOW you can all moan.

Now that i would agree with

Exactly what I was thinking. With that sort so salary I would think Jones would be liable to up to 50% tax & I certainly couldn't see the club paying any players tax bill. We're not Monaco.
His salary is too much for the championship but I'm sure it's not going to kill Tan for one more season if he stays which looks likely.

It's not Kenwyne Jones wage that,s killing the club but the 6/7 players that are not playing but still taking big wages costing us 150000+/week.

We play hoof ball when Jones is playing because of his lack of mobility. I would keep him, but would much prefer a Mason-Doyle or Mason - Ameobi combo. That way we'll play it on the deck like we did v. Watford.

I read Shef Weds are after him on loan?

I don't think that the club will be paying Jones's personal income tax liability. No doubt, he uses some creative tax advisers to ensure he is paying less tax than us (non-domiciled, use of image rights companies etc).
However, in addition to Jones's wages the club is also liable to pay the employer NIC contributions. I think that is what the article is referring to.
The additional rate of Income Tax is now 45%. However, a lot of high profile players and managers use onshore or offshore image rights companies to reduce or eliminate their personal income tax liabilities. Im not sure if it can be said that Kenwyne is a 'high profile' player, but for tax purposes he might be.

I thought he was out of contract so that means he will get a one year deal then?
