Result: Cardiff City 2 - 1 Watford

Troy Deeney scored in the first-half for the newly-promoted side but Joe Mason's double condemned the Hornets to a disappointing pre-season loss in Wales

Troy Deeney's second goal in as many pre-season friendlies for Watford was in vain on Tuesday, as the Hornets slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City.

The Premier League side were caught out by their industrious opponents, who took the lead on 18 minutes when Joe Mason turned Joe Ralls' cross into the net after a good passing move from the hosts.

Deeney then levelled proceedings on the half-hour mark, as he latched onto Craig Cathcart's lobbed ball to slide home a simple finish.

But Cardiff grabbed a winner 10 minutes from the end of a rain-soaked second half, when Ralls again turned provider for Mason with a superb pass that gave the striker an easy finish from 10 yards out.

Despite the disappointing defeat, Watford will have been encouraged by the debut of Jose Manuel Jurado, who impressed throughout.

The Opposition

A.F.C. Bournemouth is a professional football club based in Bournemouth, Dorset who play in the Premier League, the top tier of the English football league system. The club's stadium is traditionally known as Dean Court although under a current sponsorship arrangement it is officially called the Vitality Stadium. It has been in existence since 1899.

Nicknamed The Cherries, the team traditionally played in red shirts with white sleeves until 1971, when the strip was changed to red and black stripes, similar to that of A.C. Milan.[1] A predominantly red shirt was chosen for the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons before a return to the stripes for the 2006–07 season due to fan demand.

After narrowly avoiding relegation from the Football League in the 2008–09 season, Bournemouth were promoted to League One at the end of the 2009–10 season. After making the League One play-off semi-finals in 2010–11, and achieving a mid-table finish in 2011–12, Bournemouth won promotion to the Championship at the end of the 2012–13 season, putting them in the second tier of the league for only the second time in their history. In the 2014–15 season, they won the Championship title, and earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history.

hellos to make at AFCB

Kenwyne will get a great reception foepr the AFCB fans

24/7

31st July 2015

The pre-season friendly with Cardiff City takes on a bit more meaning when you cast your mind back to the end of last season. The arrival of Kenwyne Jones on loan for the run-in did the Cherries a world of good and his goal against Ipswich gave the Cherries a valuable point against a promotion rival. Kenwyne will be warmly welcomed and yet it must be strange for him taking on former teammates on this occasion.

Kenwyne will want to show us all again what he is all about.

All around Kenwyne there has been change over the summer at Cardiff. Strike partner Adam Le Fondre is still at the club but he is all lined up to move back up north either on loan or in a permanent transfer. Spanish striker Javi Guerra also seems set on a move back to Spain having failed to impress in the Welsh capital.

Russell Slade has not been busy in the transfer market this summer. Sammy Ameobi is a notable loan signing though. It looks like funds are being restricted as the Bluebirds come to terms with their Championship status for a second year. Slade still has some big names at the club like keeper David Marshall, Peter Whittingham, Anthony Pilkington and Frederico Macheda as well as Kenwyne. We might even see Scott Malone as well.

Pre-season has seen Cardiff draw 2-2 with Shrewsbury and beat israeli side Ironi Kiryat Shmona 2-0. This will be cardiff's stiffest test though and the Cherries have had some goal fests against the Welsh team although the disallowed Wilson goal at Cardiff last march was one of the few games when not much went AFCB's way.

Kenwyne will get a great reception for the AFCB fans.

It's might not strictly be a reserve team. Bournemouth have split their squad to give all their first team squad members game time.
Bournemouth played both Nantes and Yeovil in the week and both teams contained a decent number of first team squad members. It's their only home friendly, so I reckon a few first teamers will start. Probably means we'll have a much stronger subs bench though.

I'd go for a 1-1 draw.
