A very encouraging and entertaining performance and hopefully a sign of things to come.
Setup was 4-4-2. Would have prefered 4-3-2-1 with Ameobi on the left and Ralls in a 3 man midfield.
Moore – Always shouting at his defence which is something we haven’t had for years. Made a great save in the second half low to his left but flapped at a couple of crosses and seems reluctant to come off his line. Needs game time to improve.
Malone – One of the many plus point last night. Was great going forward linking well with Ralls and Mason and most of our attacks in the first half came through him. Defended well too.
Peltier – Seems to wander in field and was caught out of position a few times.
Morrison – Played Deeney on side for their goal but won his aerial battles. Needs to step up this season.
Connolly – Solid all round display. One of our best centre backs and needs a run of games.
Ralls – Fantastic performance, always looking for the ball and when he’s got it he always wants to play it forward. Even though Mason scored 2, Ralls was my MOM
Whitts – Always looking for the ball and had a huge influence on the game. Still doesn’t get forward enough in the danger
areas for me.
Dikgacoi - Showed his quality and his presence is there for all to see. Will get better and fitter as the season runs on.
Pilkington – Had a quiet game but most of the play came down the other wing. A quality player who will have a huge part to play in our season.
Ameobi – Played as a striker last night which is not his best position. Struggled with his back to goal and his control let him down on occasions. He looks a massive threat with the ball at his feet running at the defense.
Mason – At last it seems he’s going to have his chance at Cardiff and if he produces his full potential he’ll score 20 plus
this season and be MOM at many games. The only worry would be if we can keep hold of him come January.
Terry Phillips is the biggest jack going![]()
Subs
O’Keefe – Looked solid when he came on and always wanted to be involved whoever had possession. A little terrier around the pitch.
Fabio – A late substitute and didn’t have much to do. Is always a threat going forward but needs to cut out the silly mistakes to get a run in the team. Personally I’d pick him ahead of Peltier.
Revel – Only had 10 minutes or so but I can see that being a regular occurrence this season but he did caused a few problems for their defence.
Noone – Similar performance to most of last season. Needs to produce more but he’s now got competition for his position so he’ll have to show his quality.
Doyle – Another late substitute but I’m sure he’ll score 10 plus this season but mainly from the bench.
All in all I was impressed with the fitness and performance of the whole team.
