Cardiff-born Cotterill, currently with Birmingham City, has been one of the heroes of the national side’s march to European Championships qualification under Chris Coleman
Wales midfield player David Cotterill is not on Cardiff City’s wanted list and will not be joining the Bluebirds this season.
The 27-year-old Cotterill, who is from Ely, has been strongly linked with a move to the Bluebirds, but manager Russell Slade confirmed the speculation is wide of the mark.
“We are working hard to add quality to our squad, but those rumours are untrue,” said Slade.
Cardiff-born Cotterill, currently with Birmingham City, has been one of the heroes of the national side’s march to European Championships qualification under Chris Coleman, scoring in a 2-1 win against Cyprus.
Slade’s priorities with less than two weeks to go before the opening Championship match against Fulham at home are a striker and central midfield player.
The Bluebirds have cash available for the right men and went close bringing in a big, powerful centre-forward over the last few days.
City just missed out in a bidding war, but are determined to bring in the players they need.
Slade insists Kenwyne Jones will be staying in his squad for the new season, but wants another big man to add competition for that position.
City are also keen on a box-to-box midfield player who can add pace and creativity through the middle.
The latest speculation that Cotterill was a target for Cardiff started a month ago, but it simply doesn’t look feasible.
The former Swansea City, Sheffield United, Wigan and Portsmouth winger plays in a position where the Bluebirds have plenty of cover with Sammy Ameobi, Craig Noone, Anthony Pilkington, Matty Kennedy and Kadeem Harris all vying for starting places.
It had been thought Cardiff first made a move for Cotterill during the January transfer window only to be warned off by second-tier rivals Birmingham.
Cardiff have been frustrated in their attempts to strengthen their squad and have only added two players in central defender Semi Ajayi from Arsenal and winger Ameobi on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.
Moves for Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy, Derby’s Johnny Russell and former Hull man Stephen Quinn fell short of the mark.

Yesssssssssssssssssssss get in there im a massive noone fan even tho he was shit last season u watch what he plays like this season now he has tidy competitors. He played well before last season. Cant wait get in there
