David Cotteril

Sun Jul 26, 2015 9:13 pm

This is a really good signing in my opinion. Cotteril was a standout player in a really poor Birmingham side last season and is really highly rated up there. He is a Welsh international, which is what everyone wanted and he can provide much needed competition for our midfield.

He might not start every game but he's a good player to have in the squad.

Let's make him welcome and hope he can do a job for us. Another Welsh player in a Welsh club. Let's back him and back the rest of the players. Excited for the new season! :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :sladein: :bluebird:

Good, positive thread. There are others, however, who differ....

Pathetic!!

Why pathetic???? :?

All entitled to opinions and many on here remember the guy (Cotterill) making some pretty negative comments about (quote) "never" playing for Cardiff City FC after he felt they rejected him as a youngster and he was forced to go live in a caravan down west Wales! :laughing6: :laughing6:

He's not one for me TBH, but Slade will live or die (proverbially) by his signings and tactics this year and I'll support the eleven on the field at any one time!

Deluded. Hes an incredibly average player. You do realise that we have continuously been told promotion is the aim right? Not a chance with crap signings like this.

Re: David Cotteril

Mon Jul 27, 2015 7:21 am

Yes so crap that last season he scored 9 goals from midfield and had 8 assists, better than anyone of our team in fact better stats than any midfielder in the championship

He is signing for Cardiff, so he has moved past his previous comments. It's called maturity. What possible benefit could he derive from reading bilge about him on here? Don't forget about the negativity shown towards him before, including some death threats.>>>>>

>>>. Yes, it is pathetic. My opinion, but how else would you describe it when a player who is a Welsh international, born in Cardiff, gets the kind of welcome some are showing?

He is a decent player who is currently showing goal-scoring form and the club needs this kind of threat.

As long as he gives 110% i'll give him my full backing :bluescarf:

Hi work rate is very good and even though he's not as quick as Noone or Ameobi he certainly has some craft and guile.

I just wonder if we need him as he seems to be a bit like pilkington and pilks is having a tremendous pre-season.

Middle of the park is, in my opinion, where we really need someone.

Couldn't agree more. Was made to look better by his underpar Brummy teammates. Slade's seen a montage of his freekicks and 20 Yarders & settled for mediocrity rather than holding out for some quality. Shat himself 'cos he's flogged Nooney & needs a quick solution. Call me pessimistic & all the rest of it but he's hardly the answer to our problems. CM & ST need addressing way more urgently. I wish him the best but highly doubt he'll solve anything. He was a big fish at Birmingham but down here he's just another halfway there player who won't get 100% backing & regular playing time from chop-and-change Slade. You go to bed hoping for Johnny Russell & wake up to David Cotterill...

I'd have rathered Paul f*cking Brayson.

Obviously not that poor as he did far better than most of our players as well, who were supposedly prem standard last year. :ayatollah:

The options out wide are very exciting with Ameobi, Pilkington, Kennedy and now Cotteril.

I love Noone but the stats from last season don't lie and on paper Cotteril offers more in terms of goals and assist plus has the added ability to take free kicks.

We definitely need to bring in that midfield general and box to box player however and hopefully Cotteril is being brought in purely as an additional player to replace Noone as his move to Wolves seems to be more and more a likelihood

Death threats truly are pathetic, but many supporters not wanting him here is simply their opinion (right or wrong) and he certainly wouldn't be the first (and probably not the last) player coming in that many fans look at and think WTF?

I agree with you that he can be a good player 'on his day',(usually against us! :laughing6: ) but we also need to ask why he has been 'moved on' so many times?

I don't know the answer to that one other than fans of his many clubs appear to think he is inconsistent and we had enough of those in our team last season not to want any more for what will be a pivotal season in the history of Cardiff City FC

Russell Slade (another example of someone 'not wanted' by many fans) has apparently stated today that Cotterill is NOT on his list of targets and the club are moving towards other targets and my personal feeling is that our wide men, including Noone, are more than good enough to 'do the job' this season anyway

Fair enough. It seems he won't be signing after all so this is all academic if that's the case. I just wish the season would hurry up and start because this time of the year, panic and negativity seems to set in. I don't think it helps at all.

If Cotterill signs, he should have 100% support is all I'm saying. Rumours about personal issues aside, he had a good season last year.

Those under parr Brummy team mates finished above Cardiff in the league last season. So he would be a good signing as he would improve our team.
