Result: Sparta Rotterdam 0 - 1 Cardiff City

Cardiff City have finished their pre-season tour of the Netherlands with a 1-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam.

Russell Slade's side were on top for the majority of the first half, but they were unable to turn their dominance into any clear-cut chances.

The main talking point during the opening 45 minutes came early on when Bluebirds defender Bruno Manga was forced off with a leg injury.

Cardiff finally made the breakthrough on 73 minutes when Anthony Pilkington found the top corner with a 25-yard drive for his third goal in three games.

Rotterdam almost grabbed an equaliser with 10 minutes left, but Ryan Sanusi's effort came back off the crossbar with goalkeeper Simon Moore beaten.

A positive afternoon for Cardiff ended on a sour note in stoppage time as Federico Macheda was sent off for a second yellow card.

The Opposition

Watford Football Club is a football club based in Hertfordshire, England. Founded in 1881 as Watford Rovers, the club entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1886, and the Southern League a decade later. After finishing the 1914–15 season as Southern League champions under the management of Harry Kent, Watford joined the Football League in 1920. The club played at several grounds in its early history, before moving to a permanent location at Vicarage Road in 1922, where it remains to this day. Watford spent most of the following half century in the lower divisions of The Football League, changing colours and crest on multiple occasions.

England manager Graham Taylor's tenure at the club saw Watford scale new heights. Between Taylor's appointment in 1977 and departure in 1987, Watford rose from the Fourth Division to the First Division. The team finished second in the First Division in the 1982–83 season, competed in the UEFA Cup in 1983–84, and also reached the 1984 FA Cup Final. Watford experienced a decade of decline between 1987 and 1997, before Taylor returned as full-time manager, leading the team to successive promotions from the renamed Second Division[a] to the Premier League for one season in 1999-2000. The club experienced a further one season stint in the top division of English football during the 2006–07 season, under Aidy Boothroyd's management. Watford will compete in the Premier League for the first time in eight years in the 2015–16 season, after clinching promotion from the Football League Championship in the 2014–15 season.

Watford is currently owned by the Pozzo family, which also owns Udinese Calcio in Italy and Granada CF in Spain. Sir Elton John, who owned Watford during both of Graham Taylor's successful periods as manager, served alongside Taylor as the club's joint Honorary Life President, until 2008, only to later resume the role which he now shares alongside Graham Taylor.

After a quiet summer so far City fans will find tonight's squad to face Watford at Cardiff City Stadium a familiar bunch.
With Sammy Ameobi the only new player in the ranks it's going to be pretty much as you were. Cardiff have also signed Semi Ajayi on a permanent contract but he was on loan here last season.

19 year old Jordan Blaise will be drafted into the Development team after his move from France.
City will be without Bruno Manga and Ben Turner with both defenders out injured. David Marshall will again miss out as Simon Moore is given as much game time as possoble ahead of starting the season in place of Marshall who is suspended for the first three games.
Matt Connolly and Sean Morrison are expected to start as the centre halves. Ameobi will play and may play a striking role as Russell Slade tunes his side ahead of the seasons opener in less than two weeks time.
Aron Gunarsson is nursing a hip injury but Kagisho Dikgacoi could start against the Hornets.
Watford, newly promoted, are managed by Spaniard Enrique Sanchez Flores, who was in charge of Atletico Madrid when they won the Europa League.
Sanchez is new to the club becoming their 5th manager in the past 12 months.

Watford have made nine summer signings. Etiene Capoue, Jose Manuel Jurado, Miguel Britos, Sebastian Prodl, Giedrius Arlauskis, Matej Vydra, Jose Holebas, Valon Behrami, Allan Nyom. They hope to complete a deal for Steven Berghuis this week as well.

For those who have to pay tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

I won't be there, never did friendlies anyway.

As it's gets closer the early fixtures look daunting! I have a very very sincere worry that we are going to come a cropper (really hope not). It's the way I feel, seen nothing to change my mind things have or are getting better.

Rudderless, leaderless and useless continue to hang over the club with very few exceptions of light :sladeout:

Hoping for a stream to be able to watch this tonight, now we're all big-time it seems we get them quite often. :digging2:

Reckon a 2-0 Watford win, deeney and ighalo with the goals. Keep an eye out for Jurado (please don't injure him) and Behrami (good luck trying to injure him, the man seems to be some kind of tank/human tackling beast).
