" MORE SIGNINGS NEEDED "

By Steve Tucker

Saturday 25th July 2015

Let’s be honest, it’s been a disappointing summer on the transfer front by the Bluebirds so far. Those who like digesting news of a new face with their cornflakes have had slim pickings so far. Semi Ajayi from Arsenal is more a work in progress although the rate centre-halves are dropping at the club he maybe pressed into action sooner rather than later. The big one, of course, was the capture of Sammy Ameobi from Newcastle, plucked from under the noses of Championship rivals too.

So far he looks to be still getting up to speed, but the promise is there. Cardiff are being linked with another striker and what seems like the eternal quest for Derby’s Johnny Russell which looks an increasingly forlorn hope in truth. But more quality is needed, cost cutting or no cost cutting, and in particular that midfield area needs someone just a bit special in it. Last season the Bluebirds stuttered and never quite got into gear in the middle of the park.

A ball carrying midfielder with a bit of forward momentum is required and that could make all the difference to the forthcoming season. Hey, right back too needs cover. With Lee Peltier absent against Rotterdam with his wife due to give birth, Fabio shuffled across.

Fabio is right footed though so I can't see why slade and ole played him on left. Tom James is meant to be a good prospect though. I'd rather see an academy kid in first team than slade spend money on some crap league 1 player.

We need rid of Morrison as he's an expensive liability. Should not have let the lad oshilaja join gillingham on loan. I'd rather struggle for a season or 2 with costs reduced and young players who will fight for the shirt.

I agree with you mate about Adedeji, he should have stayed and been allowed to fight for a place. He obviously wanted to stay here because that was the main reason that he turned down a loan move to Wimbledon last week. Now Connolly will play ahead of the injured Manga and Morrison has to play as well now, with Turner missing too. When we have all of our centre halves fit then I think the two centre backs should be Manga and Turner. If Turner gets injured like he has done, then Connolly should take his place. I also agree tha Morrison is a liability and in my opinion should be 3rd choice centre half, behind Turner and Connolly. Saying that I would rather that Oshilaja was 3rd choice over Morrison, but that can't happen now as he has gone on loan to Gillingham. Our loss is Gillingham's gain.

Bloooooobirds.

Slade seems inept when it comes to the transfer market, so let the chairman handle any possible transfers, then maybe we will get somewhere

He may be inept, but what is your evidence for it?

Didn't Ken Choo and Mehmet Dalman 'handle' the January transfers and the Ameobi loan?

I assume Russell Slade has identified a long list of potential signings that he would like to see in the club - but despite ITK posts and confident reports in WOL (often contradicted the following week) I doubt anyone other than Slade and his team + the chairman and chief executive know who is on it. Not random posters and not people who work in central Cardiff sportswear shops.... for a start.

Any club chasing new signings will be trying to balance the books, get players out to free up wages/fees, competing with other clubs that may be more attractive because of salary offers or location. It has been pretty quiet so far this summer for Cardiff, but that doesn't prove in any way that Slade is inept.

My guess is that he is trying to get one or two key targets in - who are good players and also talking to other clubs at the same time - whilst trying to get ALF and Guerra (and Kiss and Lewis and Velikonja) out of the door. There is plenty of time left in the window and no need to hyperventilate just yet!

Desperate for more signings I'd say if the club has any ambition (which I seriously doubt because he's looking to off load us) as there aint a lot if talent in the squad. However, for a bog standard Championship team on a good deal we might find a buyer!

Can't see that we are going to get any quality. If anyone comes in it will be yet another freebie. To date it's been a very poor transfer window without a penny being spent on transfer fees. Light years behind the top teams.

I think there's enough in this squad to do well if they come together

Have to agree. Boro have up to £20m to spend and Derby are not far behind, so in theory, these two should be in the top two. When you factor in other clubs spending then it's clear that one or both may fail.

I don't thing by spending big will get you as far as what you spend - in this division at least.

Team spirit and good fortune coupled with what we have will serve us well in my opinion.
