MANGA A BLOW, BUT IS ALL HOPE LOST
Saturday 25th July 2015
By Steve Tucker
When it comes to things you don’t what happening in a preseason friendly, seeing your defensive lynch-pin stretchered off with a knee injury is probably quite high up the list.
That was what Russell Slade had to witness as Bruno Manga went off against Rotterdam with barely 15 minutes on the clock. Now, before we all start wailing and gnashing our teeth, the extent of the injury is not yet known until a scan on Monday, but there were enough concerned faces within the Bluebirds camp to have one imaging the worst.
Manga is a massive presence for Cardiff, perhaps one of the few Premier League class players they still possess and if ruled out he will be a big miss. But it is not total catastrophe. Despite the absence of Ben Turner for the start of the campaign too, the Bluebirds are not too badly staffed in that department.
If the hour cometh and if the man needeth to cometh, then he is already in the ranks and waiting. Matthew Connolly is one player I don’t think anyone would have any problem slotting in there against Fulham. So often the victim of his own versatility Connolly is defensively a very safe pair of hands, a player who has never let Cardiff down when called upon. There’s an argument indeed he should be starting anyway.

I agree with Tucker

we are very strong in terms of player numbers at CB, this is one area that is well covered although Manga is the best ball playing CB we have.

How long is he out for? Or is everyone still waiting to find out?
