Bruno Manga to have scan on knee injury

Bruno Manga will have a scan on a knee after being carried off in Cardiff's 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam.

The Gabon international defender will return to Wales with the rest of the team on Saturday before having the injury examined on Monday.

The 27-year-old Manga was signed for more than £5m in 2014.

The injury could leave manager Russell Slade with a defensive problem with Ben Turner already missing the start of the season after having ankle surgery.

Anthony Pilkington scored the only goal.

Slade sounded very down about the Manga injury in the post match interview (on CC Player). He thinks it is bad.

Good interview I thought - he was serious, thoughtful, focussed on the culture, shape and fitness of the squad and happy with the progress in Holland (apart from the Manga injury). He sounded much more in control to me than in previous interviews, and gave me some confidence that he knows exactly what he is doing - he has a plan and is ahead of schedule.

On the crisis in defence (with Turner and Manga likely out for the start of the season), it was interesting that he sees Semi Ajayi as the 5th centre back after Manga/Turner/Morrison/Connolly. I thought Ajayi might have been seen as a Development Squad player, but it looks likely he will be the main cover until one or both of Manga/Turner is fit.

So not Tom James, Ben Nugent, or Lee Peltier moving across - unless we get more injuries!

Fingers crossed. Turner out is also a big blow. He seems to have problems with his ankles. I've always rated Matthew Connolly, so he might get a run in the side now.

Yes Slade has sounded upbeat about the pre-season training and the games.
It's good that Slade feels he is progressing.
Losing Manga for a while is not the end of the world,we have depth in the squad.

Exactly, we've got Semi Ajayi also who looked good with Manga in Pre Season. We are well covered at the back and hopefully Bruno will be back soon. If it's a bad knee injury and he's out for a long time then that'll be a blow, hopefully not though. :bluebird:

Let's hope not, but if Manga is out for a few months, do we have the option to recall Oshilaja before he's even kicked a ball for gillingham?

I can't understand letting him go with a few weeks of preseason left. Surely you need to weigh up the chances of injury.

I've got s really bad feeling about this injury. Manga being out injured for any kind of spell, whether it be for 2 weeks or two months, is not good for us one little bit. As he is the best centre half we have at the club by a mile. I cannot see us giving Ajayi or Blaise a run in the team instead of Morrison or Connolly, or even perhaps Ben Nugent. So if Manga is out for a long period then the best thing to do would be for us to sign a central defender from the Premiership, on a season long loan. There are quite a few quality 19-22 year old centre backs in the Prem, who aren't getting the type of first team action that they would like and would jump at the chance to play regular first team football for us.

Bloooooobirds.
