' RUSSELL SLADE FEARING THE WORST '

Russell Slade spoke after the friendly win over Sparta Rotterdam and the main talking point was the knee injury picked by player of the year Bruno Manga.

The seriousness of the problem or how long Manga might be out is not yet known, but manager Russell Slade is fearing the worst.

“It’s devastating to be honest, the thought of losing a player like Bruno,” said Slade.

“We will have to see. The medics said it is the lateral side of the knee. But Bruno heard something when it happened. I’m not sure if he went up to compete for the ball and just landed awkwardly or if it was a change of direction.

“The start of the season now has to be a doubt for him I’m afraid, I’m afraid it just has to be. It is a worry, but we will find out more next week.”

Not good news. I actually felt like our defence was beginning to get settled. Let's see what the diagnosis is and then get worried. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious but it doesn't sound positive.

That's how I look at it. Obviously losing BM is a blow but our 'bloated' squad might just come to the rescue in the form of Connolly or one of the promising youngsters.

Agree with both posters here. I feel sorry for Slade on this one but we'll just have to make the most of it. The lads may well rise to the occasion

Whenever I've seen Connoly play as a central defender, he's been fantastic. It's only as a right/left back he struggles. Great championship defender, and I feel all at watford think the same too.
