West Wales isn't completely black and white!

I'm down there a lot and see Cardiff shirts often. If you go and watch games on TV in the pubs, you'll find a lot of support for both clubs.

They are, however, spreading their tentacles by playing further a afield than their own turf. (Merthyr for example).

Surely friendlies anywhere in Wales can only do good for Bluebirds. The support in outlying areas will whither on the vine if we aren't careful.

But you're not the most observant person are you, after all you said you don't see Swans tops on show in swansea when you visit swansea, also you didn't notice that cardiff were supposed to be playing Haverfordwest last week, there are plenty of swans fans in Pembroke itself, how do I know ? Because I live on main St in Pembroke.

Out of interest, where is 'West Wales'? Where does it start?

Re: Cardiff couldn't but Swansea could

Fri Jul 24, 2015 6:16 pm

Well whenever I have been to visit my neice in West Wales who moved there 2 years ago, I am always staggered at the amount of Swans jerseys I see. Not just jerseys but general training gear. I always see kids on their bikes and guaranteed one or two will have either a Swans jacket or jogging pants on. West Wales is definately jack land. As are most places these days to be brutaly honest. There was even two kids with jack tops on in the ASDA in Leckwith last week.

I'd say from Swansea, or any place west of Swansea ie llanelli, carmarthen and down to Pembroke, Fishguard.

Inclined to agree, although some claim that Port Talbot is there too.

Either way, most people in 'West Wales' ,who follow Welsh football ,follow Swansea. A few support other clubs ,too. I know blokes in Carmarthen who support Everton, Leeds, and Wolves, and go to games. Not every week, but a few times a season. I moved back to Carmarthen five years ago, after 34 years in Cardiff. There are a few of us bluebirds about, who go to games, but we're in a minority. Quite a few egg-chasers in the area, too.

Point is, if we can really call a game between two clubs from cities forty miles apart a 'derby', then we should expect to see fans of both clubs popping up all over South Wales. That's what's happening.

Who thinks West Wales is Osprey country? What a moron. Most rugby fans in West Wales are Scarlets fans and most football fans follow the Swans.

Do people on here still think Gorseinon is Bluebird territory because someone once saw a guy with a shirt on?

Go-sign-on is definitely jb territory.

I always thought west wales starts on the britton ferry bridge and ended in aberaeron. (Though neath is a bluebird dominion :thumbright: )
Mid wales starts after that which is blue

Im always stunned when I hear people think Neath is full of Cardiff. Neath is 99% jack land. I lived there for 10 years prior to moving to Bath and I was the only City fan I knew and got slaughtered for it, it was the local thing at the time. "The only scummer in the village" was the tag line, all in jest of course, but that shows how little blue there is in Neath. I dont think "territories" exist anymore. Especially since they are Premier League, kids are buying into them wherever they are from in Wales.

I was under the impression that West Wales was Llanelli, Carmarthen, Pembrokeshire etc.

I spend as little time as possible in Neath so I can't comment on how many swans or Cardiff shirts may be on show. Still, that doesn't stop some people in here from doing that.

I thought Bath was in Somerset not Wiltshire?

Re: Cardiff couldn't but Swansea could

Bath maybe. I live in a town just outside Bath called Trowbridge which is about 6 miles from Bath itself and is most certainly Wiltshire. But this part of the country is very close to the Somerset border.

Bath used to be Somerset. Then it became Avon. Then under further reorganisation it become BANes ( bath and North East Somerset).

Not in wilts anymore. Used to live in Bradford on Avon then a village outside Devizes called Market Lavington. Moved to Andover 8 years ago. Was always known as wilts blue so haven't changed my user name. I usually catch train from Salisbury to home games. Always a few city that are on board.

Re: Cardiff couldn't but Swansea could

People in places out west tend to be very whimsical I have found. I've lived in Pembrokeshire fir periods of time and have maybe only ever seen one jack top. Not many cardiff either but I know of plenty who say they follow us, hardly ever go to games mind.
I'm sure now more kids are wearing Swansea tops down there instead of the usual Liverpool ones but so what?? Just kids.

Re: Cardiff couldn't but Swansea could

Sat Jul 25, 2015 10:16 pm

Just kids? Kids are the future generations. Give it 8 years time and those 10 year olds are fully paid adult season ticket holders. The kids are the future of any club.

Not really. Many kids get given football kits and encouraged to support a particular team and as they get older they either support someone else or become not interested in football.

Re: Cardiff couldn't but Swansea could

Sun Jul 26, 2015 5:59 pm

If that were the case then the stands of all football clubs will be empty in 20 years time, full of doddery old fools. Football is a generation thing, the youth of today are the crowd of the future, its always been the same.

West wales is black & white[/quote]

It wasn't until 5 years ago. About 90% of Swansea 'fans' down here are glory hunting ex Liverpool/Man Utd supporters.

It is all well and good to come to your rivals website to poke fun, have a bit of banter etc, as I do myself. But always try and make sure it doesn't come back and bite you on the ass!

Swans call off game v Haverfordwest, and they are fuming!
