'Bristol City fans to boycott Championship season opener'

Thu Jul 23, 2015 8:35 pm

I don't like Bristol City, but they are dead right on this one. £39 for a 3 and a half hour drive is just ridiculous, especially for the pitch that you get at Hillsborough. About time coins treated fans properly. :ayatollah:

BBC

A section of Bristol City supporters are planning to miss their first game back in the Championship over what they call "astronomical" ticket prices.

Away supporters who travel to Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day will be charged up to £39 for a ticket.

"For some of us, it is a matter of principle," said a statement from the Bristol City Supporters' Club & Trust.

"It is going to hurt to do this, but the Supporters' Club & Trust has decided not to attend this game."

Bristol City won the League One title in April to secure their return to English football's second tier following a two-year absence.

The Robins have received an initial allocation of 1,068 tickets in the Leppings Lane End at Hillsborough on Saturday, 8 August.

The Supporters' Club & Trust say that, along with travel and expenses, the ticket price is "too expensive".

The statement added: "Nobody's calling for a boycott, we just think it is a step too far.

"We think many City fans will vote likewise and choose not to go. Maybe in that way Sheffield Wednesday will get the message that this is unreasonable. After all, it will only cost Reading fans £25 when they go to Hillsborough. Where's the sense in that?"

How a ticket in the championship can cost anything over 25 quid is ridiculous

Fans pay enough for travel food and drink and a day out without paying 40 quid for a ticket
You can understand Chelsea United etc and how they charge it and get away with
It but Leeds and Sheffield are nobody's to charge 40 quid

This new owner at Sheffield Wednesday seems intent on fleeceing everyone, home and away fans alike, must be Yorkshire thing, with Leeds up to the same game.

Now that would be ironic.

Don't get it like, he wants the fans to fund moves for players but what about away fans? Surely the Football League should get involved. There desperately needs to be a cap

Good on them, £20 for a Championship game is plenty in my opinion. I think the FA should introduce a set price for match tickets based on what league the team you're watching is playing in, regardless of whether it's Arsenal or Accrington.

Premier League: £30
Championship: £20
League One: £15
League Two: £10
Conference and below: £5

I think that's more than reasonable. Whilst prices are increasing, attendances are dropping. This is the best compromise. But of course, money is far more important than the fans in an industry that's totally corrupt.

Totally agree with all them prices.
I'm not renewing this season but will just pick my games.
I think thousands of last years season ticket holders feel the same that fans are being overpriced whilst players get obscene wages.

everyone can agree this is the right thing to do, and the only way clubs will be shamed into lowering prices.

More than happy to pay over 5 pound to watch Merthyr home or away clubs at that level need and use money for right reasons.

£39 is excessive. the only way this will be reduced is by not buying the tickets, so well done for bristol for doing that instead of buying them and moaning, which would achieve nothing.

anything over £30 is too expensive for championship football.

The fa don't want to know. They are worse than the clubs and they wonder why no one is going to football
