" CARDIFF REJECT BIDS FOR MIDFIELDER "

Peter Whittingham is one of the most talked about Cardiff City players. Russell Slade has decided not to sell him and promises to get the best out of him instead

Cardiff City have rejected two bids for star Peter Whittingham and insist they'll get him back to his best this season.

Cultured midfielder Whittingham has made nearly 400 appearances for the Bluebirds but has endured a struggle to hit top form in recent years.

And speculation over his future has been rife during the summer, with Championship rivals Hull and Wolves rumoured to be preparing offers for the 30-year-old former Aston Villa man.

The Bluebirds playmaker has enjoyed plenty of high spots in South Wales, including Premier League promotion and FA Cup and League final appearances, but in recent times his impact has waned.

Last season his central-midfield partnership with Aron Gunnarsson was regularly criticised as the Bluebirds failed to impress on their return to the Championship.

But now manager Russell Slade has vowed to hold onto Whittingham and promises to get him playing "killer" passes - and making a real impact on games.

The demanding boss has warned Whittingham there must be a visible improvement next term, with the onus on the player to rise to the challenge.

Without naming the clubs involved, Slade said: “I’ve had a couple of enquiries about him, which Peter is aware of. We don’t want to let him go.

“Some of the onus is going to fall on his shoulders next season. He will want to get off to a good start and I’m sure he is going to want to impress. He sets himself very high standards.

“In terms of what we can do to help him, pre-season is going to be useful so we can get some rules into play and get across what we are going to actually require from him. In terms of forward movement I think that is important.

“We know he can play that central role. Sometimes he can do the one narrowed up on the side possibly. He’s a good passer of the ball, but you do want him in those forward areas himself because he can find that killer pass.”

The suitors may be kept at bay at the moment, but with the transfer window open until September 1, Slade knows there is still a long way to go.

And as owner Vincent Tan calls for cost-cutting and a rationalisation of the club’s finances, Slade fears that the final decision on the Whittingham situation might not finally rest in his hands anyway.

He added: “We just don’t want to be losing our quality players now if we can help it.

"But if somebody comes in and offers £5m for him then I'm sure that decision will be taken away from me.”

"But if somebody comes in and offers £5m for him then I'm sure that decision will be taken away from me.”

Very clever from Slade. That comment pretty much advertises Whittingham to clubs, but only for a big fee.

Yes clever Tonteg because who the hell will offer even a tenth of that? We're stuck I'm afraid

Most teams in the league would take Whitts off our hands if they could!

Are you one of those who think a footballer should just run around like a headless chicken and attempt to break peoples legs?

Bet you loved him when he scored that free kick against Leicester, his Hatrick at Sheffield or what about his goal at Middlesbrough in the FA cup quarter final? What about the countless assists hes provided every season!. He's the only player in our team whos comfortable on the ball and doesnt look to hoof it 50 metres up the pitch!

He hasnt been played to his strengths since Dave Jones left. The Right tactics and and some actual direction when it comes to our style of play and he will be back to his best!

Theres a reason promotion chasing, ex premier teams & big clubs (For the champ) are looking at him
