Cardiff City Transfer News: Bluebirds reject TWO Peter Whittingham bids

By Gareth Rogers

South Wales Echo

Thursday 23rd July 2015

Cardiff City have rejected two bids for star Peter Whittingham and insist they'll get him back to his best this season.

Peter Whittingham is one of the most talked about Cardiff City players. Russell Slade has decided not to sell him and promises to get the best out of him instead

And speculation over his future has been rife during the summer, with Championship rivals Hull and Wolves rumoured to be preparing offers for the 30-year-old former Aston Villa man.

On his day Whitts is one of the best midfielders in the division, he couldn't help it last season that the ball kept flying over his head. Let hope Slade opts to play football this year instead of hoofball, then we'll see the real Whits. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Slade never got the best out of Whittingham last season and he won't this season either, sell him and let's end Slade's obsession of playing Whittingham and Gunnerson in the same midfield

No bids have been made if you read the article, but there have been enquiries, which are different to bids. If we were to receive a bid then I think Slade will have no say in the matter, especially if it is a couple of million. Personally, I would let Whittingham go we are offered more than £2m, as I think he is way past his best and as he is getting older, there is less chance of him producing the quality that he used to, a couple of years ago. I feel that we need a bit of a out with the old and in with the new mentality. The younger players should be given a chance next season if Whittingham isn't producing the goods again. We can't have another season of the team having to carry Whittingham again, as that was definitely the case a few times last season and a lot over the past couple of years. What is the point of having a squad of players who are not given the chance to show what they can do. When whether or not Whittingham is playing good or bad, he will still always have a starting place in the side.

Peter Whittingham has been an unbelievable servant to this club and there have been many, many times when he has won us games just by himself. But all good things come to an end and just like when Gerrard left Liverpool, I think the end of Peter Whittingham's Cardiff career, may come around much sooner than we think. There is no way on earth that our central midfield should be the same as last season, with Whittingham and Gunnarsson. If it does then nothing will change next season. Out of the two I think Gunnarsson should play ahead of Whittingham, as Aron brings more to the team and he does a hell of a lot more for the team than Whitts. I would not be against Whittingham remaining at the club, but being a sub before being a starter. But, things just cannot remain the same, for this upcoming season.

I actually believe if a good bid had been offered, we would sell.

I know Hull and Wolves have enquired, but I think exactly like the bullshit of Joe Mason/Wolves it's all happening again, we are just trying to sell our players in my opinion and it's coming from agents/ media etc

Our season is doomed if thats our midfield again imo, this is the same peter whittingham everyone is raving about that got bossed in the middle of the park by a youngster at shrewsbury the other week. Way passed his best far to many people stuck in the past.

Yes, we would all want Whittingham playing in a much more attacking role, but even if he were to play there for us, I still think that he is a shadow of his former self. Whittingham over the past few seasons, has not shown any signs of the old Peter Whittingham, who used to boss games, create goals and score the goals. I honestly think if Slade or any of the previous managers that were at the club, had told Whittingham that his input in to the team was not enough and if they had of been a bit ruthless with him by dropping him now and again, just like what happens to all of the other players after a few poor games. Then I think we may have seen a different side of Whitts, by him showing more commitment, hard work, etc. As one of the biggest problems with Whittingham is the fact that however bad he plays, he still knows that he will be one of the first names on the team sheet for the next game. Also, he has never had real quality pushing him and fighting it out with him for a place in the centre of midfield. Things have been to easy, comfortable, etc for him, so I'm not surprised that he loves it here and he is settled and would remain here for the rest of his career. This would never happen at other clubs and with other managers. This is one of the things that needs to be addressed and changed for next season. There are plenty of times in the past when Whitts should have been dropped from the starting line up, but he never did. It lookeep almost as if it is written in his contract that he must play from the start every week.

This must change next season.

Ryan Woods is light years ahead of him in talent. People seem to think if someone criticises Whittingham its because we prefer heads down, arse up headkess chickens running about. Not at all, some of us enjoy our football like fine wine and we can tell the difference between Bollinger and Asti Spew Manti!

Don't get me wrong Whitts is a talented player and can be frustrating at times but believe me if we got rid of him you would notice how much he makes a difference in attack he has the passing range a lot of championship clubs would love and with his dead ball deliveries and i am not really surprised with the bids that come him for him over the past few years and he turned them down because he loves the club and not there are not a lot of that going about in today's football Whitts is a good example of loyalty. :thumbright: :sladein: :ayatollah:

His long range of passing his vision the way he can pick a pass and play diagonal balls out wide from deep to the winger tha'ts trying to run behind the defence or straight down the middle to the striker and his free kicks and corner deliveries i take it you haven't been a supporter very long.
