Cardiff City boss Russell Slade insists the boo-boys won't bother him as he aims for Championship play-off place

Having stated that his Cardiff City ambitions lie in the Championship's top six, manager Russell Slade insists negative sentiments won't bother him

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade admits he's under pressure but insists he won't bow to the boo-boys.
The Bluebirds boss, who was under-fire for most of last season, says his team improved under his stewardship last season and claims he's never doubted himself.
When asked about his personal criticism at the relaxed setting of the team's Dutch pre-season training base, Slade mischievously responded. “Has there been criticism? We’ve not kicked a ball in anger yet!”
Season start
That first ball in anger will be kicked when Fulham visit the Cardiff City Stadium on the opening day of the Championship season on August 8.
Then follows a tough trip to newly-relegated QPR, with Wolves and Hull all looming on the horizon in quick succession.
Slade will need a good start if the vultures are not to start circling with unseemly haste, but while acknowledging there are those out there just waiting for him to fail, the Cardiff boss is adamant he is facing the new season with relish.

Bruno Manga is still at Cardiff City
“People are entitled to their opinion, but I am not going to doubt myself, am I?” said Slade.
“I never doubt myself. You can’t afford to have doubts at all. You need to have such a focus in this game. You can only control what you can control.
“I can’t control what the man next door is going to say or what the newspapers are going to print about me.
Pressure
“Every manager that kicks off on August 8 is going to be under pressure. If he does not get off to a good start say in that first month then he will be under pressure, me included in that. If you win every game in August you are still under pressure. You are under pressure to keep results up and keep going.
“Look, I know a good start is going to be important. The work we are putting in now and the fact we finished last season in such good form, relatively at least, the last ten games would have seen is sixth. So we’ve shown some improvement. I don’t think of personal pressure, to be honest I’m just looking forward to it.
“The group are enjoying it, they are closer than ever. It’s exciting.”
Despite the austerity measures at the club, expectations in the Welsh capital are sure to be sky high but Slade has come out fighting as the new campaign nears.
He said: “Our focus is to aim for a top six finish. There’s no doubt about that now.
“It’s still a work in progress, but things are taking shape. We are going into the new season ambitious and full of optimism.”
The seeds of that attempt at a top six placing are being sown this summer at their Dutch training camp where the Bluebirds are based at a four-star resort an hour’s drive from Amsterdam.
Pulling together
Slade says the trip is all about unity and togetherness, qualities he surely hopes the Bluebirds’ supporters will start displaying towards him in larger numbers as the new season develops.
“It’s a training camp, but the real beauty of it is having your players 24/7,” added Slade.
“If you decide to put on something at 7.30 in the morning we can do it. We are trying to vary things, we’ve got the bikes, swimming and yoga. We put more sessions on for them all day.
“I just think it all helps with the togetherness and getting used to each other. They get used to working with each other. You don’t get so many opportunities during the season to spend so much time together. That’s really important.”

Everyone has a choice.... back OUR manager who is clearly a genuine man which could result in an enjoyable season of supporting the bluebirds.
The other option is keep getting on his back and affecting what happens on the pitch then fall so far behind that when fans get a manager they want we'll be too far behind.
We're called supporters because we are loyal and are supposed to support the team through tough periods too. Nows the chance and we may get our rewards.

Spot on, Mr Slade deserves a chance

You've gotta give Slade credit; he's thick (skinned) isn't he? Reminds me of an old dinosaur!

I agree if we're all pulling in the same direction we got a good chance I just hope he doesn't use them awful tactics he used last season

The crowds will be so small this season, I doubt Slade will hear the booing anyway.

"A work in progress" is going to be said quite a lot by Slade

How about supporting him , he knows he's up against it with the expectations from the majority who seem to be willing him to fail.(he fails the team fails ) He's now had a preseason and enough preparation to really put his stamp on things , it's not an easy start and I expect a few losses but it's a long season ahead with plenty of opportunities to put things right if needs be .

I'll be honest, I don't want Slade at our football club and I believe he's been here long enough to implement his ideas into the team and he hasn't done anything for me.
But, he is here and for that reason, I
WILL support him. I hope he proves me wrong and gets Cardiff into the Top 6 this season. Best of luck Slade, you've got a second chance from me!

I say give him until January. He has my backing until then
We need unity. We've been through worse times than this.

I don't understand booing our own team or players. Back them all until the bitter end! I certainly don't think Slade will take us up but I also don't think he'll take us down. After recent dramas, I'm happy with any progress to be honest.

Long enough? He had a January transfer window which isn't the easiest and inherited a squad that isn't his and came in during he season. Bold thing to say while not taking into account circumstances.

This.
Give him until next January window and see where we are then.
