LATEST ON DECLAN JOHN :ayatollah:

" Declan John can own left-back slot "

The next couple of weeks are crucial for the Wales international from Merthyr Tydfil.

He must focus on becoming the best full-back he can and put all ideas about a role on the wing out of his mind.

There are way too many candidates for those wide midfield slots with Sammy Ameobi, Craig Noone, Anthony Pilkington, Matty Kennedy and Kadeem Harris all challenging.

John, though, can put left-back rivals Scott Malone and Fabio under real pressure. Malone failed to impress at Shrewsbury, while Fabio looked below his best on the right of defence.

Now is the time for 20-year-old John to have confidence in himself and push on.

He has skill and pace going forward, while he is learning his defensive responsibilities and making progress.

Malone doesn’t look the answer, while Fabio’s defensive frailties could make Slade hesitant about selecting him against Fulham on day one of the Championship season.

The battle is on to be first choice left-back – and John must grab his chance.

Still not sure about John don't think he will quite cut it if I'm honest

Agree.

Id like to see him loaned out and see how he does over a season.

Play him.

What more do you want in a 20 year old full back. In his short spell in the team he was good. Mistakes are expected.

We are going to regret it again if we sell.

Agreed, he's only going to improve I think his role in promotion season an prem season are massively under rated.

Hes a good player , like depressed blue said mistakes will be made.

Hes homegrown too so if Slade plays him he will hopefully improve massively , which is not only a good thing for Cardiff but also for the Welsh national team on a whole

I'd still have rather seen him given a bit of time on the wing last season when we had limited options. I reckon he could do a job though. I really rate him.

If he wasn't Welsh no one would care.

The best thing for dec is to sit tight, wait for this clown to be sacked and hope the next manager realises that full backs are no longer there just to bully and kick the opposition wingers. By attacking they force their winger back....
