Referee: Rob Lewis.

Shrewsbury Town gave the Bluebirds an uncomfortable time at the New Meadow Stadium.

The home team had enough chances to have won, particularly in the second half, and Cardiff were happy to leave with a second successive pre-season draw.

They finished 1-1 at Forest Green and it was all square in Shropshire.

City conceded a sloppy goal after eight minutes when Akpa Akpro got away from Lee Peltier, who tried to get back and succeeded only in bringing down the Shrewsbury man.

Akpro took the spot-kick himself and scored clinically.

Joe Mason equalised with his second goal of pre-season, firing home from close in after Shrewsbury failed to deal with a long throw.

Mason and Pilkington combined after 32 minutes and almost created a goal. Pilkington’s shot brought a sprawling save.

Pilkington was not to be denied, though, and when Craig Noone was fouled just outside the penalty area the free-kick was down the middle. It was taken by Pilkington, whose curling, dipping shot flew just inside a post.

At 2-1 ahead Cardiff should have won, but Shrewsbury pushed them back and created chances.

It was James Collins who made it 2-2, tapping home after goalkeeper Moore turned a powerful shot onto his bar.

It will usually happen in pre season friendlies as we are not yet match fit. The fitter we get, the less likely we will be to concede late on. Hopefully when the season gets under way, we will be fit enough to still have the quality, mentality and concentration levels to see games out, but that will only come with fitness, so I'm not overly concerned right now.

Surely the teams we are playing in pre season are also not match fit?

They seem to be fit enough to score late goals whereas we are not fit enough to stop them doing so.

Results don't matter it's about fitness but performance wise I think we are heading for much of the same this season.
