Cardiff City leave tiny Haverfordwest County feeling 'disappointed' and 'embarrassed' after calling friendly off

18th July 2015

BY GARETH ROGERS

Injuries have led Cardiff City to call off Sunday's planned friendly at Haverfordwest... leaving the west Wales minnows to miss out on a summer payday

Havefordwest were forced to call off their friendly with Cardiff City

Cardiff City have called off their pre-season fixture at Haverfordwest County on Sunday after picking up a number of injuries.

The Bluebirds under-21 team were due to make the trip, but the proposed fixture, at the Bridge Meadow ground where they kicked off last summer's pre-season, has been postponed - leaving the West Walian Bluebirds to miss out on a potential payday.

Haverfordwest official Barr Vaughan admitted: “It is a big disappointment and a little embarrassing because we have been promoting the match heavily.”

Russell Slade's Bluebirds have however agreed to rearrange the friendly at Haverfordwest for later in the season.

Christ alive how hard would it of been to make a team to go through with this.
We have an obligation.
While the jbs are promoting themselves across Wales, we are pissing people off.

We could have easily put a team out for this .

Send the players who are out of favour like kiss , velinkonja , guerra , John and harris to cover the development team injuries . At least they will be earning their money . You never know guerra may hit 6 and give spade something to think about lol

Only half the story written here ,the match had been called off due to injuries in the whole squad and slade not wanting to play the first team players twice in 24 hours mainly the defenders

Surely the club shouldn't of expected every player to be available for selection. Injuries were not factored into the planning of this game, along with the clear over stretching of player numbers having so many friendlies bunched together.

I just can't see other clubs being forced to cancel friendlies due to lack of players! Please stop the circus act, we've had a lifetimes worth of clowning around condensed into the last 3 seasons, time for a fresh start, please allow the fans to start to believe they know what they're doing

At their age I was playing Saturday, Sunday morning, 5-a-side on a Monday evening and training Tuesday and Thursday - and paying for the privilege!!

And drinking Fri/Sat/Sunday - and sneaking a few other nights in.

Not playing twice in 24 hours, bleeding overpaid prima donnas, they should get a grip!

:laughing6: I wonder how long you'd take to leave your full english brekkie and reply. we weren't sending a first team, pointless statement. Why not send down the kids with some of the stiffs who have no chance of playing again for city under uncle fester?

as for argument that players could get injured, sorry, can happen anytime, and not playing football, most injuries are caused in training!

Victor's not back from leave yet, captain sensible is typing!

ps, need a security guard for your gaff, Dai is now fully fledged cctv/security man - mind you he's spent the past 12 months looking at his laptop anyway www.com :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

the under 21s have an injury crisis and slade wasn't willing to send first teamers so that's why it was called off

send us down then, can just see a Wez XI lining up (dai used to play in goals 40 years ago!), strongbow before, during and half-time and then all back to yours later!

I would've had a game. I also know the routine for the chance Doyle had after Mason let it run. Same 'shouts' that we did under James Rowberry in Newport academy

Dutch Ray would have a field day with this, a rightfully so! So early into pre season we shouldn't have so many injuries that we have to call a fixture off. It begs the question, what type of fitness work they are doing as the old slog them to death regime has been proven to cause more harm than good in the long run.

Surely we could have called up some of our best under 18s up to play to cover the injuries? It would have given them good experience playing against a Welsh League team. There are no excuses for not playing. Very poor from ourselves.

It really annoys me when pre-season the club sticks two fingers up the welsh teams and go to the likes of Forest Green. The gate money alone would help these welsh teams for a season at least!!!

The Merthyr away friendly was always a classic day

Yes but you know as well as me that a payday during the season is nowhere near as money making as a pre season friendly because fans won't brother travelling for a mid season friendly and it won't be on a Saturday either
