Fabian Delph joins Manchester City after double U-turn in just a week
• Midfielder’s £8m transfer from Aston Villa confirmed by City
• Delph had stated loyalty to Villa on 11 July: ‘I am not moving’

Sat 18th July 2015

The 25-year-old was thought to be close to moving to City last week when reports said the north west club had triggered a release clause in his contract, but he issued a statement stating his desire to remain at Villa.

Delph, however, has now changed his mind and arrives at the Etihad Stadium for a fee reported to be in the region of 8 million pounds ($12.5 million).

"Leaving Aston Villa is the hardest decision I've ever had to make," he said in a statement.

"My decision to stay initially was purely based on the emotion and feelings that I hold for the club rather than looking at the football opportunity that had been placed in front of me.

"I am now excited for the future with Manchester City."

Probably end up like Scott Sinclair on double the wages but more likely to be on the bench. He'd have been better off staying at Villa and playing regularly and trying to keep his England place.

Nah it was a double u-turn.
He was due to have a medical last week & to join the squad on their tour but pulled out & publicly announced he was staying with Villa. He then changed his mind again to join City which is the reason the Villa fans are so annoyed.
Can't really blame him.

Fair enough

Thought it was a bit odd in this modern era for a player to show any loyalty.

Man City are desperate for English players because of champions league regulations. I bet they just chucked more and more cash at him until he changed his mind.

That's fair enough mate but I read somewhere recently - if you want loyalty, get yourself a Labrador out on the wing!
Quite funny but shows the way football has gone in recent years.
I don't blame the players most of the time. Wouldn't most on here move jobs to double or treble their wages?
