In a remarkably frank account of his time at Cardiff, Anthony Gerrard speaks about Malky Mackay, THAT penalty miss and accusations he partied with Liverpool fans following Cup final defeat

Anthony Gerrard reveals his fury at Malky MackayAnthony Gerrard reveals his fury at Malky Mackay

Former Cardiff City defender Anthony Gerrard has opened up for the first time about his eventful and emotional spell with the Bluebirds.

The centre-half joined Cardiff in 2009, playing 74 games, scoring four goals, before signing for Huddersfield in 2012 after a season on loan at Hull.

And the 29-year-old, now looking for a new club after leaving the Terriers on July 1, has pulled no punches in his version of his time in the Welsh capital.

Gerrard has revealed how:

An emotional row with manager Malky Mackay left him in tears before the 2012 Carling Cup final

He was left ‘like a zombie’ after the penalty miss which saw Liverpool take the trophy

He almost came to blows with a Reds fan after the game

Wembley has become a ‘horrible’ place for him

He realised his days at Cardiff were numbered

The emotional row between player and manager on cup final day

Some people just cannot be managed. Loads of them in football.
It does not say what the row was about .

personally I liked Gerrard as he was fully committed.

This is one side of the argument. In my opinion, his argument with Malky just adds weight to the claims that he was happy to miss a pen and screw us over. The person he comes across as, I would not be surprised if he did. The big question is why Malky let Gerrard take a pen?! I wouldn't have let him near one!

Never was a big fan of Gerrard and just came across as a bit of a c**t to be honest. No class about him and never a player I really rated when he was here.

I've read the full piece ,the row was that he was doing all the interviews and was told he was playing in the final all the previous week ,his kid was sick all that week but he had to go all around the place for these interviews ,then on the morning of the game he was told he was a sub ,malky had no man management skills

I don't get what Gerrard is trying to say. It was the right choice to start Hudson. That's the bottom line. Malky probably gave Gerrard interviews because he wanted Gerrard to have some of the limelight against his family club. If Malky had told Gerrard he was starting then last minute told him he was dropped then fair enough. Also, Gerrard goes on about his kid being in hospital. Must have been terrible. Obviously wasn't terrible enough for Gerrard to turn down the chance to do interviews and get in front of the cameras to talk excitedly about playing Liverpool. The man is full of shit.

I really don't understand the whole thing about people saying Gerrrard missed the penalty on purpose, no professional footballer would do such a thing, I liked Gerrard and he always have 100% when he played, he would of wanted to score that penalty as much as anybody else

This tells us bugger all! Malky probably told him he was shit! ( which he was  ).

I think theres a theme in the players coming out and slagging malky off. All the players that are falling down the leagues and were simply not good enough! Gerrard ,parkin, gypes, that reserve lad (Can't even remember his name) and kienan. All the top players bellamy etc have nothing but praise for malky! Gerrard has been trouble at every club hes played at you only have to look at his most recent season at Huddlesfield to confirm that! You can tell his arrogance in that intrerview

Exactly this! None of the top players or well regarded pros have said anything but good things about Malky!
