Don't car rental firms annoy u sometimes?

I heard a story of my friend being given a free upgrade as they had nothing else which ok you think we'll at least I don't have to pay for it! This took me back to 2006 when I went on a 4 week trip (not in the UK). On arrival the person stated that they have no other cars and you can have a free upgrade. I thought this is great, not that we needed one but I thought that's a kind thing to do! We had paid for insurance to insure we had a minimum excess. I signed the contract and the guy asked if I could initial by the insurance that I had taken out. We were quite tired after a 11 hour flight so wanted to get on our way ASAP! A couple of days later I noticed that they had charged me for the upgrade on my contract and I phoned the company who just said take it up with us when you get back. When I got back the guy said no you have signed the contract and initialled by the upgrade charge! I couldn't believe it, obviously for the length of time we had the car it was quite costly! I tri d to argue it out but they were just not listening. I explained that on the day I took the car you had nothing else and that the upgrade was free! But they just looked at me and said no you've signed for it! Be so careful when you rent cars! It's a dirty trick to play and they get you when your tired and just want to get on your way ASAP! Probably a commission for the sales person or something but a shock to find out all the same! I have t been back since!

got done this week in Malaga airport effectively I paid for insurance twice ,I took out var hire and full insurance on a intermediate website contacted to firefly car hire. It ment I didn't have to use a credit card for 1000 Euro excess deposit but when I got to the airport they said it wasn't there insurance and I needed a credit card for 1000 euros but if I paid an extra 45 euros I would have not to put a 1000 deposit down plus I would be fully comp ,I went nutts coz I thought it was sorted but it was late and just wanted to get the car ,I wasn't happy at all but paid the extra money ,I didn't trust them with a 1000 deposit
