Ambition/Back The Manager

Tue Jul 14, 2015 10:50 am

The club has re iterated its desire to return to the Premier League and the fact that they will support Slade in the transfer window.

The club spent very little in the January transfer window with many of the imports coming from the bargain basement. I believe that Doyle was the only major signing for a quoted 750K.

To date in this window our A list targets have been forgotten about due to their valuations and we have seen 2 loan signings brought in ( 1 that was with us at the end of the season) and not a penny spent on transfer fees. I agree that the club needed to pull in the purse strings but are these measures extreme if we are really trying to get promoted? How does the club expect to entice fans back if we are left with the same players that dished up dire performances at the end of last season? Ameobi may be a breath of fresh air but I hope that we do see some quality brough in.

Annis quoted that we may get another midfielder before the start of the season and more if we offload more players first. Are you happy with our transfers dealings to date? Are you looking forward to the new season and what are your expectations?

We are less than 4 weeks to the start of the season and I thought that we would have offloaded more players by now and brought a few more in. I hope that there are a few quality additions in the next month however things do not look promising. Unless our performances improve dramatically then we are a mid table team at best. Slade had the January transfer window & now the summer transfer window to construct his team. He has also had pre season to get the players ready. It will be interesting to see if these factors improve the performances that we witnessed last season.

Maybe I'm one of few but il turn up regardless of how many players we've signed or haven't signed, the fact people 'need enticing' to go and watch their local team just shows how many fair weather fans we have.

The club has outlined their plans to cut wages and we have a good enough squad IMO to go up, probably minus one CM that were working on.

Regarding players moving out, I can see more loans heading out and maybe a few contracts being paid off by the new season as a last resort.

It's not about all about signings or new players it's about managing what we have now so it's over to Slade who I'm willing to give a good crack at the whip despite dire displays last year, these are new circumstances and wee need positivity and full support like any loyal fanbase would give... I think we'll be fighting for 6th place this year, maybe just missing out but I can't see us being below the top 10 no way. (Don't bookmark that quote though  )

I've been saying this for a while now. There's no ambition to go back up in my opinion. its all about balancing the books. Considering we were in the prem a few years ago we've not really signed anyone of note to get us back up there. Another season of mediocrity. As long as we dont get relegated Slade we keep his job because he's managed to get a lot of players off the books whilst maintaining our champioship position. Exactly what Tan wants.

The fact Slade remains in charge shows we have no ambition to go up.

It a war of words that the club have been dishing out.

Yes the club said it would back the manager. The thing is it is how you interpret it. Was it they will back the manager if he abides by our rules such as no one above £500K or was it they will back him with a treasure chest. A number of us took the later and must be feeling very disappointed.

Personally I wish the club would shut up and get on with it because I don't believe a word that comes out of them running the show.

If you look at the average number of players we have used over the last 10 seasons we have competed in the Championship it would be 27/28 players. Before Adeyemi was loaned out to Leeds we had 29 players in the first team squad so in terms of numbers, and despite moving on 12 players since RS arrived, we already have the numbers of players we would need to complete a season at Championship level.

In my mind I have no doubt that RS must move players on before he can sign replacements and I believe that for two reasons, firstly moving players on will make room in his playing budget that he can use to sign replacements. However those replacements, in my opinion, are likely to be "Free Transfers" or "Loan Signings" unless any player moved on results in a transfer fee being received, then the manager may be able to pay a transfer fee. The club has said they will "Back the Manager", but within the constraints of FFP, so I think if there is to be more movement in regards of players coming in there will have to be movement the other way.

In terms of numbers RS already has, on average, the same numbers needed by both MM and DJ so the question is does HE have what it takes to achieve what the previous managers did by getting us into the Playoffs.

How does it go Hmmmmmm.

Exactly, that's why we need a manager to make them achieve.

Usually I can see something good in a manager, I see nothing in slade and believe we will be in a relegation battle this season because of him.
