A Big Summer for Russell Slade: Cardiff City and Their Potential Transfer Targets
Since the end of the previous campaign Russell Slade and Cardiff City have been linked with numerous players as potential transfer targets. Most recently Cardiff City have acquired the services of Samuel Ameobi from Newcastle United on Loan until June 2016. Sammy has proved he has had previous experience as a championship player when he spent time at Middlesbrough in the 2013-2014 season where he made 9 appearances scoring one goal, which was against Cardiff City.
Since returning to Newcastle after his spell at The Riverside he has made over 35 appearances, scoring 2 goals over the course of the last 2 campaigns bringing excitement to Newcastle United and their fans. With a player at the Cardiff City Stadium of his talent and experience, he could prove to be an influential player over the course of the next 11 months and take Cardiff City the right way – forward for the future.
Another player that Cardiff have been linked with and reports show a bid has been made for is Derby County’s attacking player Johnny Russell, who is highly regarded by a lot of Championship teams and fans due to his ability and experience. The winger was snapped up by Derby from Dundee United in 2013 for a fee of around £750,000. Since joining the Rams he has made 63 appearances scoring 15 times and getting a hateful of assists along the way.
Johnny Russell is a player that has big potential, since his move from Scottish Side Dundee Utd. Since his move it has seen him break into the Scottish National Side where he has made 3 appearances to date. By bringing in a player of Russell’s calibre it would no doubt strengthen the current squad with his goals, assists, ability and strength. By capturing Derby’s Russell, it could also bring out the best in other players at Cardiff with the likes of Craig Noone and Anthony Pilkington fighting for places in the starting eleven.
Finally another target Cardiff City could look at is former Bluebird Conor McAleny who spent last season on loan at the Cardiff City Stadium from Everton. He brought a lot of creativity, pace and chances last season. He is someone both Everton and Cardiff could benefit from. Conor made 8 appearances for the Bluebirds last season scoring 2 goals and several assists at the same time. Conor was a stand out player in a recent Everton friendly against Swindon Town, playing a big part in three of the goals before scoring one himself. He is a player that has had a number of loan spells in the Football League, including at Brentford and Scunthorpe. He has big potential and could prove to be an asset to a promising season in the championship for Cardiff City.
By bringing in players that have great potential this could be the way forward for the Bluebirds, who look to start the championship season on a high on August 8th against Fulham at home.
The players that have been brought in by Russell Slade could prove to be the answer for the fans come the end of the season in May 2016, with a play-off push on most of the Cardiff Fans agenda for the forthcoming campaign.
