Cardiff City close in on Derby fan favourite

CARDIFF CITY, CHAMPIONSHIP, DERBY COUNTY, FEATURED, NEWS, TRANSFERS

According to Wales Online, Cardiff City are closing in on a £1 million deal for Derby County forward Johnny Russell as fans plea for the club to hold out for a higher fee.

Russell is seen as a top transfer target for the Bluebirds this summer and Derby boss Paul Clement could well see the 25 year-old as surplus to requirements following the arrival of several big name players.

Tom Ince, Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann have all moved to the Ipro Stadium this summer pushing Russell down the pecking order.

The Scotland international doesn’t have the best goals-to-game ratio in his two years with the Rams but he is renowned for being a positive influence and someone who never stops working for the team.

After spending the first ten years of his career with Dundee United where he played over 100 times, Russell enjoyed the most prolific season of his career during the 2012-13 campaign – where the striker netted 20 goals in 38 games.

This form bought about a £750,000 move to Derby in 2013 and the Glasgow-born attacker has scored 15 league goals in 63 games for the Rams.

Like many others are saying 1 mill is a bit low for him, so I will believe it when he is wearing our shirt :ayatollah:

Thought i'd give a Derby fans thoughts on this! Johnny is a decent player, he seems to have purple patches which last about 10 games, then goes quiet. Works extremely hard and is very passionate, which is why most Derby fans want to keep him. If you are serious about him then £1m is not enough. In today's market I'd want £2.5-£3m for him. Also, he was asked after the game if he was leaving, to which he replied 'Am I ****'. Make of that what you will!

'Works extremely hard and passionate' seems our type of player. But you're right, £1m is a small fee but I can't see us offering much more. But in regards to his comment after the game, it can mean f**k all these days. How many players say they're staying and then leave the next week? Happened to us a few times I.e. Frazier Campbell and Caulker just to name a few
