The on-off saga of Javi Guerra's Malaga move rumbles on as the Spanish club insist he's still on their radar

Malaga manager Javi Gracia insists Cardiff City striker Javi Guerra is still a top target.

In the weeks after the 33-year-old striker's successful loan spell on the Costa Del Sol finished last season, he had looked set to make the move permanent.

But this week the deal hit a snag as it emerged the Spaniard had to find a way of negotiating the end of his Bluebirds contract for the transfer to progress.

Cardiff chiefs have reportedly refused to pay up his contract, leaving the only options on the table for the player, who has already offered to take a pay cut, or the La Liga club to come up with the cash.

But Los Boquerones boss Gracia has moved to clear up the situation and say Guerra, who is currently pre-season training with Russell Slade's squad in Leicestershire, is still in his plans.

Cash strapped Malaga have already lost star forwards Juanmi to Southampton, Francisco Portillo to Real Betis and wingers Samuel and Samu Castillejo to Villarreal.

Their manager, who has tasked his recruitment team to find him some new strikers, told Spanish news outlet Deportivo de la Cadena: "We would like to come back for Javi Guerra because we've lost important players in attack.

"But it is not up to us.”

Malago Hoy claim that Gacia is already looking at other loan options and say: “The deal seems unrealistic as Cardiff remain closed to providing an early termination.”

Guerra has a club who wants him and are offering him a contract, who are also cash strapped, he should take the sensible option and terminate his contract, he is very silly if he holds out for a payoff which could result him losing a decent opportunity to play regular football.

Why should we terminate it? If he wants to leave its up to him to either find a suitable buyer or to ensure we dont have to give him a payoff and walk himself

Ryan,

It looks like we are not going to get anything for Guerra and City dont want him, so they will prob do a pay off.

I think you're getting your words mixed up ... Cardiff City are closed to paying up his contract - not the same as Cardiff City are close to paying up his contract. C-L-O-S-E-D means they are not going to entertain the possibility.

Don't blame them either, if he wants a new club he can walk away, or rot in the reserves.....

Cardiff City striker Javi Guerra still remains on the radar of Spanish side Malaga after their manager Javi Gracia insisted he is still a top target, reports Wales Online.

Guerra spent the second half of last season on loan with the Costa del Sol side and they are keen to bring the 33-year-old back on a permanent basis.

It seemed like the deal would happen a couple of weeks ago, but it hit a snag when Cardiff refused to pay off the player’s contract.

The striker still has a year left on his current deal which leaves the deal hanging on two options.

The options are for Guerra himself to pay off the remainder of his contract or for Malaga to come up with the money to do so. The Spaniard has already agreed to take a pay cut on his current wages to secure the move to the La Liga outfit.

Malaga have already lost a number of their forwards including Juanmi to Southampton and Gracia is keen to add more attacking options ahead of the new season.

“We would like to come back for Javi Guerra because we’ve lost important players in attack. But it is not up to us.” he told Spanish news outlet Deportivo de la Cadena.
