Happy Birthday to Fabio who is 25 today. Fabio won 73 tackles last season, more than any other Cardiff defender

Yep and yet a lot of the fools on here still maintain he can't defend he's without doubt our best fullback both offensively and defensively.

Its his defensive positioning, concentration and loss of control (at times) that is the problem with his defensive duties.

How many of those 73 tackles were recovery tackles from being caught out of position in the first place? Connolly in comparison has good positional sense and decision making. He doesn't need to win as many tackles because his positioning and anticipation allows him to intercept passes.

I likie Fabio. I think he does the job for us and we miss his energy when he doesn't play, but I don't think it can be denied that his positional sense is weak. However, still hard to get past.

He is hot and cold defensively i think.

Lets not be silly, you're definitely not a fool for realising Fabio made a lot of defensive mistakes last season. As decent as he is offensively, and as much passion and energy as Fabio brings, there's a reason our opponents often target him; he's weak in defense and has a questionable temperament.

I like Fabio and think he should start but tackling is not the only part of defending.

He is caught out of position quite a lot (he loves getting forward so that's no surprise) so will end up making plenty of tackles through chasing back. He does also have games where he's looked solid defensively too.

So let's analyse what you're saying here.

Fabio makes more tackles after tracking back from attacking moves than our other defenders who are just happy to sit back and do a single task?

I can only see the positives in that!

To intercept a pass don't you have to be always positioned behind the ball.

Negative as f@@k

That's because he's so defensively bad opponents target him giving him.chance to make more tackles than our stronger defenders! :old:

he is not a defensive full back he is an offensive fullback.

i think he'll be gone by january though, slade doesnt trust him and would prefer a more reliable performer in the mould of peltier.....

If you're happy with a full back wildly charging forwards into no mans land leaving us wide open ahead of a full back who sits in the correct position to restrict the opposition, cut off options, intercept and win possession to start an attack, that's your choice I guess.
