Cardiff City launch fresh bid for Derby County Winger

The Bluebirds had seemingly missed out on signing the Scotland winger, but they remain optimistic they can land one of their top targets.
Cardiff City have renewed their interest in signing Derby County winger Johnny Russell, believing they can still land one of their number one targets of the summer.
The 25-year-old Scottish international was high on Bluebirds’ boss Russell Slade’s wanted list, but it looked like he had missed his chance earlier in the transfer window with Rams’ manager, Paul Clement, insisting Russell was not for sale. It led to Cardiff cooling their interest in signing the Glasgow-born player and looking around at other potential targets.
But with Derby announcing the signing of wideman Tom Ince from Hull a week ago, the Bluebirds are set to once more test the resolve of the East Midlands’ club to hold onto Russell.
Indeed within the Cardiff camp there is a growing confidence now that Slade will finally get his man ahead of the start of the new Championship season next month with an offer in the region of £1m believed enough to force Derby’s hand.
Russell has become a firm favourite amongst the Rams’ faithful since joining from Dundee United two years ago for a fee of £750,000.
He has gone on to make 87 appearances for County, firing 17 goals in the process. He managed six of those in the Championship last season.
Russell earned his third cap for Scotland last month too when he came off the bench as Gordon Strachan’s side beat Quarter 1-0 in an international friendly.
Slade has just brought in Sammy Ameobi on a one-year-loan deal from Newcastle and he sees Russell as the next piece of the jigsaw on the other flank as he plots a flying start to Cardiff’s new Championship campaign.

Would be a good signing although if he signs surely a winger would have to leave?

I somehow don't see it happening.

Noone, Pilkington, Kennedy, Harris, Ameobi, even Dec John. Hell, let's get another winger!

I can see at least two of them going. Noone permanent and possibly Harris going out on loan? Maybe Dec having a Loan again? That's just my thinking.

Norm, But I can see Nigels point of view.
We still are struggling to get rid of players and the squad is still massive.

If we are going to struggle to get rid of some players I would expect that some contracts are going to be paid up if desperate.

Ages to go yet....
Our wingers were the shit all last season, but everyone blamed the central midfield. No Goals, no pace, no assists. That is why we are collecting them. Kennedy has skill and looks like he can deliver a ball. Pilkington will turn into another Whitts, a good footballer drifting in the middle more and more as he finds his pace diminishes. Noone is shot. Harris is league 1. Dec is a wing back and needs to play for a modern manager.

Problem is, if we are waiting for players to leave before we buy then the original targets will be off.
We ll end up selling them off on the cheap or buying out contracts

Declan John & Kadeem Harris on a season loan, Also Pilks is injury prone it makes sense to bring in another winger

He is a great player Pacey strong and always gives 100 per cent I think it would be a massive mistake if we sold him to you honestly I really rate this guy if you get him for a million then you have a bargain of the season I rate him between 4-5 million to be honest
