Wales have achieved their highest Fifa world ranking, entering the top 10 for the first time.
Chris Coleman's side have moved up 12 places to 10th, with England one place above in ninth, up six places.
Wales' previous highest ranking was 22nd and as recently as March 2011 they were as low as 116th.
They enter the top 10 after Gareth Bale's goal secured a 1-0 win over Belgium in a Euro 2016 qualifier in June.
They are three points clear at the top of Group B with four games remaining as they bid to reach their first major finals since 1958.
Wales find themselves above reigning European champions Spain in the rankings, with Vicente del Bosque's side down two places in 12th.
"It's a remarkable achievement but it's testimony to all the hard work the players have put in," Wales coach Osian Roberts said.
"They turn up for every camp, they work hard and buy into the game plan.
"They deserve every credit for getting us to where we are in terms of the rankings, although we are fully aware in many ways it counts for nothing - it's about qualifying.
"Our sole focus is on qualifying and getting out of this group."
Argentina top the Fifa rankings despite losing to Chile on penalties in the final of the Copa America.
England enter the top 10 after maintaining their 100% record in Euro 2016 qualification following a 3-2 win in Slovenia in June.
Scotland are down one place in 29th while Northern Ireland rise seven places to 37th.

not 100% sure whats strange. if anything, european teams are at a disadvantage as most of their matches are played against good sides.

Great news
FIFA rankings are based on current form and not the past and currently no one can deny we are on form
Overall probably not the 10th best in the world but this is a form table so on this basis is accurate

I know what you are trying to say that it's form, but how can Argentina move up to top spot when they just lost in their last game? if that's form, then they lost so they should dip or stay the same? It's a point system that is baffling, anyway we are top 10 so I will take it, but it's definitely questionable.

We’ve spent decades on the wrong end of this unusual rankings system down as low as 117th four years ago when we were sandwiched between Haiti and Grenada. Now it’s finally working in our favour let’s enjoy it and milk it.
WELL DONE WALES!

Well I don't think we are the 10th best team in the world and I don't think we were 116th best team in the world either

9th in August! Holland's third place play off win depreciates, putting them on 1032 points, while we're on 1155 points. The climb continues!

Absolutely disgraceful. If anything, we should be higher up. We controlled Belgium and earned a well fought 1-0 win over a quality side full of individual talent. We showed tactical superiority regardless of what anyone says.
England are above us but struggled against Estonia and couldn't even beat Ireland in what was the most drab affair ever.
We should be in the top 5.
