" JAY BOTHROYD DEFENDS THE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST HIM "

Wed Jul 08, 2015 5:13 pm

My Own comments :ayatollah:

I was once in the dressing room with My Daughters as they were mascots, Ridsdale allowed me to stay in there for the team talk. Bothroyd was the Captain, Jones was giving his pre-match talk.
Bothroyd had his earphones on and it took Jones and 2 other players to get him to pay attention.

My view, one of the most talented players weve ever had,but way to laid back.

Former Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd defends time at club after team-mates' revelations

By John Doel

Bothroyd told WalesOnline he was fully committed to the Bluebirds between 2008 and 2011 and always trained in the correct way

Jay Bothroyd has defended his time at Cardiff City in the wake of suggestions from former team-mates he and Michael Chopra were given special treatment because of their ability.

Bothroyd told WalesOnline he ‘loved every minute’ of his time with the Bluebirds between 2008 and 2011 and insisted he always trained and lived his life in the correct way.

The striker’s comments come in the wake of claims from former City striker Jon Parkin that Bothroyd and Chopra were given treated differently by then-manager Dave Jones.

Parkin’s observations were backed up by midfielder Gavin Rae, who claimed Jones’ attitude to his star players risked causing division among the Bluebirds ranks.

Parkin had claimed Chopra disappeared to his home in Newcastle after midweek games, affecting his preparation for the up-coming Saturday fixture.

Bothroyd has now moved to clarify his commitment to Cardiff, saying: “I’m not interested in gossip. I loved every minute at Cardiff and played with good players and good people.

“Everyone has their opinion but I know I prepared for games and lived correctly so I’m not interested in silly stories.

“I listened to Gavin’s interview and he spoke well and was spot on.

“I’m not sure why my name is involved because I always prepared correctly. I was always in Cardiff and hardly ever went to London unless we had a few days off.

“I haven’t heard Parkin’s comments but my name shouldn’t be mentioned along with Michael’s as I always lived and trained correctly.”

Asked about Bothroyd and Chopra, Parkin said: “Dave Jones just pretty much let them get on with it.

“He was more lenient on them maybe and obviously felt that was the best way to get the best out of them.

Former Cardiff boss Dave Jones
“That was in everything, off the pitch, in training and in games.

“But Jay and ‘Chops’ were scoring the goals and that is the way football is. If you are scoring on the Saturday who is going to argue with you?

“Everyone knew what Jay and Chops were like, so we just dismissed it really. We let them get on with themselves.”

Midfielder Rae added: “I totally agree with Jon Parkin, things like that would be going on and then it comes to the Saturday and you have boys who have trained all week who are on the bench or not even on the bench. Then other boys are starting who maybe did not take it as seriously as the rest of us were taking it.

“There may have been reasons why Dave did that with certain players, I totally get that, but I think it was detrimental to the squad, I don’t think he should have done that at all.”

Chopra, 31, last week made a sensational plea to rejoin the Bluebirds, insisting he could still do a job at Championship level despite seeing his career stutter in recent seasons.

He also accused some Cardiff players of “bottling” the 2010 play-off final against Blackpool, adding: “Me and Jay probably had the biggest egos at the club, but, come Saturday, we produced.”

As Chopra says at the end of that article, they did normally produce the goods on a Saturday.

We could have done with Jay producing a bit more of the goods in the Play Off Final mind rather than leaving us to rely on Kelvin Etuhu!!

I once interviewed Darren Purse. He told me that before a game Chopra gave an apprentice some money to get him a burger from one of the vans outside Ninian Park. He then proceeded to eat it in the changing room 45 minutes before kick off. Funnily enough he scored, and we won, but it just goes to show he was definitely indulged and sadly it caught up with him in the end.
