O/T BBC FUNDING CUTS

Mon Jul 06, 2015 7:03 pm

I see in the latest proposed budget cuts, the Government is no longer prepared to fund £650m to cover over the over 75's licence fee.

Now, on face value this is a massive blow to the Corporation, however, I do believe that they need to be more self sufficient and not be solely reliant on the compulsory licence fee.

I am aware that the BBC do at times waste money ( the Salford Keys move, and the new offices in Cardiff, the need to send out regional reporters to overseas events when a simple stream back by one anchor man would surely be acceptable)

A solution for this, shortfall could be that they start charging through advertising between programmes.

They are even worse than past governments when it comes to spending other people's money.

The Saturday night should be one long programme of football highlights covering all the devisions rather than two programmes with two lots of crews, guests, presenters and so on!! And that's just one example.

Scrap the licence fee altogether, and let them compete with every other channel, on a level playing field.

Fail to see what the BBC brings to Television any more. Mostly documentaries about Animals & Space. I do however watch BBC3 in the evening but with that going online, the licence fee doesn't seem cost efficient any longer.

Graham Norton - £3 million (TV)
Chris Evans - £3 million (TV)

Graham Norton - £1.2million (Radio)
Chris Evans - £1 million (Radio)

That's just 2 employees

Your all fecking mad!!!I'd rather pay the licence fee than yet another pay through the nose subscription channel. We all pay for it one way or another. The average price of a season ticket is a direct affect of all the sky money being poured into the game.I agree it could be run better but if they scarp the licence fee we'll all pay much more in the end.

I agree. I hate the fact it is a compulsory fee. I'd rather have adverts on the BBC. The only things I watch are Match of the Day and the Football League Show and one of them is leaving the BBC now anyway. So I'm essentially paying £12 per month for a 90 minute programme... which I could watch on Sky anyway.

I've objected to the TV licence ever since I was in uni when I couldn't get a signal in my room but because I had a TV to play my computer games on I was forced to pay a TV licence. Scabby cunts.

You were conned then mate. If you do not watch live TV, then you do not need a licence. Does not matter if you own a TV or anything, you only have to pay if you watch live TV.

do you pay subscription for ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 then..? not all advertising channels require a subscription you know.

From a bygone era.

They should be developing talent rather than enter a bidding war with commercial stations for "star names"

Needs to be cut adrift from government / license funding.

Some of the storyville documentaries are incredible.

Why they stick them on BBC4 i do not know.

They must cost a fair bit.

Sky may give the big bucks, but it is purchased by the BBC for a reason.

The Ashes 2005 on C4 had a viewing high of 12 million. The highest since being on sky - 1.5.

The six nations is huge, and watched in every corner of the UK.

BBC should not have any sport anymore. The price of the coverage has become too much for the licence fee payer in this day and age.

RBS should get taken to the cleaners. Bailed out, yet still use the publics money to become the main advertiser at the tournament.

advertising helps bring more customers and the tax payer needs RBS to produce better figures to help its share price

The BBC do advertise... its own programmes!

Weather you watch TV or listen to the Radio they are advertising their programmes all the time, you wont get more then 30 minutes of air time without the BBD plugging another one of their own programs!

Surely the first which should go is the BBC world service!! why should our licence fee be for everyone else in the world to enjoy..?

The BBC is a vile organisation.

Re: O/T BBC FUNDING CUTS

Wed Jul 08, 2015 7:36 pm

they cut a deal so that they could increase the licence fee tax by inflation annually in exchange for this.

i only watch wimbledon, bbc news and top gear on the BBC, they don't do attenborough documentaries and the like anymore. so the quality of programming is going down, but the public prefer lower licence fees over higher fees and better quality so we can't complain.

Re: O/T BBC FUNDING CUTS

I listen to 5 Live, 6Music and Radio 4. High quality and well worth my licence fee alone.

On top of that I read BBC online news daily and watch BBC TV fairly regularly.

Many of you might like watching shite but I don't. Trying to kill the Beeb is madness. Speak to anyone who has lived abroad and they'll tell you the Beeb has its faults but is the best in the world.

I dont think you appreciate the bbc. The world service is an institution in its own right. A world wide advert for the UK. In terms of foreign policy, that is maybe the remaining area that people respect.

The Bbcs radio is a god send. Radio 2 , radio 5, radio 1 etc etc all listened by millions and millions.

The bbc is the most respected world wide news provider also.

TV does not make or break the BBC in my eyes.
