Millenium Stadium third tier

Thu Jul 02, 2015 7:58 am

Wondered if the two tier end of the stadium will now be upgrade to three do the bowl will be complete after securing Champions league final? The inside and exterior of this section ,in my opinion, ruins what could be one of the greatest stadia in the world.World Cup rugby,Champion League football,British Speedway Grand Prix all with world wide covered, plus your Take That and One Direction crowds, all smack bang in the middle of one of Europes most up and coming waterfront cities with a local airport capable of handling jumbo jets.Be great if Welsh Assembly could take the lead in making this happen.

Glanmores Gap, the North stand. The issue here is with CRFC, or more importantly, I believe the Athletics Association, that own the Arms Park.

I must be one of the very few people who actually likes glanmors gap. I think it gives the stadium a unique look from other similar bowl type stadiums. just needs a tidy up on the outside of that part of the stadium. Do something with the concrete left from the old stadium like paint if or cover it up. The Cardiff blues are in discussions to build a new 15 thousand seated stadium which will turn thier existing stadium 90degrees, they will then build a conference centre and hotel on the existing site......and will also give the wru the option of finishing the bowl. Could well see those plans rushed through now.

Yes they refused to accept new ground at time! Thought read not long ago that they were going ahead in near future to sort it out but who knows?

Wasn't this always the issue regarding the North Stand, that the CRFC had to move in order to accommodate a completed North Stand, & more importantly build the Hotel & conference facilities that UEFA required for the holding of their highest profile event? Not to mention the public transport links, in & out of the City.

I like the sound of the Arms Park 90 degree turnaround, if indeed its feasible.

Yeah, the athletics club wouldn't let the wru erect that big crane on their land I.e the Cardiff rugby ground, so it was impossible for them to Finnish the bowl, or something like that. As for the stand, there was a lot of talk about it having concrete cancer (what ever that means) but its not true. Supposedly a myth. The concrete on the old stand is checked every year, and its fine.

Doubt anything could be done in the time available.

There is also a redevelopment of the main stadium entrance, which frankly looks awful at the moment. This will also not be done in time.

Cardiff Blues do plan to redevelop and turn the pitch 90 degrees. I assume this will allow the third tier to be built.
