Fans will have to apply for Millennium Stadium tickets and hope their name comes out in a public ballot, but they could cost up to 400 euros
Welsh football fans will have to enter a ballot for just 6,000 available tickets if they want to attend the Uefa Champions League Final in Cardiff.
Leading officials behind the successful bid for the biggest club game on the planet spoke of their pride at landing the showpiece fixture at a Millennium Stadium press conference on Wednesday morning.
First Minister Carwyn Jones, Football Association of Wales chief Jonathan Ford and Welsh Rugby Union boss Roger Lewis were amongst those talking of how Wales would wow the world when the final is hosted in the country in 2017.
Your 2017 Champions League questions answered
But with the prospect of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo being in town, the big question fans are already asking is ‘can I get a ticket for the game?’
Ticketing is out of the FAW’s hands and at the behest of Uefa, who will take over the Millennium Stadium for the game.
However, Ford confirmed 6,000 would be available to the Welsh public and fans throughout Europe, pointing out: “As was the case with the final in Berlin this year, it will be done via a public ballot.”
Barcelona and Juventus received 20,000 tickets each for the 2015 Champions League final in BerlinBarcelona and Juventus received 20,000 tickets each for the 2015 Champions League final in Berlin
The Millennium Stadium holds 74,000 fans, but the vast majority of tickets will go to the two clubs contesting the final and Uefa hospitality.
At this stage, it is anticipated that will leave 6,000 tickets which Welsh fans will clamour for and Ford says they will be ranked as category one, two and three.
It is unclear exactly what the prices will be, but a guide can be given with the cost for the recent final in Berlin where Barcelona defeated Juventus to win the prestigious trophy.
11 things you may not know about the Champions League
The most expensive seats were 390 euros, followed by 280 euros. Category three tickets were priced at 160 euros.
“We appreciate lots of people in Wales will wish to see this match and be asking about tickets,” said Ford. “We have a population of three million, of course, and there is inevitably going to be a clamour to see the match.
“Uefa will make around 6,000 available in a general ballot, so people will have to put their names forward that way.”
What to do to get a ticket
For the Barcelona v Juventus final, both sides received a 20,000 allocation each, the arena capable of holding 70,500 people, while the remaining 24,500 went to UEFA’s corporate guests and sponsors.
Uefa opened the ballot on March 5 and let ticket applications run for just over two weeks.
Each applicant was asked to complete an online application form for a maximum of two tickets and enter the ticket lottery.
They were each treated as equals, regardless of the time of submission during the application period.
Applicants were informed via email April 10 about to whether they were successful or not in the lottery.
The FAW expect Uefa to adopt a similar process this time around.

I wonder how many of these tickets will actually find their way to the "Welsh Public"
By the time the FAW Council members take a share, followed by the County Associations, then the Welsh Premier League, the Welsh League and ALL their friends and families not many I would say.
Find yourself a seat on the South Wales FA Council and your chances would improve no end.

Ballots are more or less worthless. Ticket touts just make multiple accounts.
The rugby world cup for example. Thousands of fake accounts. Have look on stubhub. Wales Fiji the lowest price is £100 +.

Surely more tickets should be available to fans of the teams concerned.

At that price they can shove em up there jacksy. Robbing kents no game is worth that amount. Football ain't for the ordinary fans any more.

Fair enough, to be honest. As the host association, the FAW should get some tickets. Only right that they distribute them to people who work at grass roots level, (mainly), year in, year out. Don't really see why the 'Welsh Public' should get any. Glory hunters, egg-chasers, and so on. Better that the tickets get to fans of the clubs involved.

Think the atmosphere alone in the city will be electric so if no tickets I'd just like to soak that up instead
