Cardiff City transfer news: Peter Whittingham linked with move to Hull City
Wednesday 1st July 2015
By Terry Phillips
Could the Bluebirds' longest serving player leave the club this summer as reports lnik him with Steve Bruce's Hull
Peter Whittingham, Cardiff City’s longest serving player, is being linked with a move to Championship rivals Hull City.
That could prove a double midfield blow for the Bluebirds, who missed out on signing Hull’s Stephen Quinn this week.
Republic of Ireland international Quinn, who is out of contract this summer, turned down the offer of a new deal with Hull and said no to Cardiff manager Russell Slade.
He has signed for Reading, while Hull manager Steve Bruce has drawn up a list of possible replacements with, according to a report in the Sun, Whittingham highly placed.
Former Aston Villa playmaker Whittingham, who will be 31 next month, first joined Cardiff eight years ago and has scored 72 goals in 339 league appearances.
He played a big part in Russell Slade’s team last season, but Cardiff may be willing to part with Whittingham for the right fee.
Would you sell Whittingham for the right price?
YES
NO
The player, though, may not be keen on a move to Humberside, having turned down offers to sign for Fulham, West Brom, Stoke and more a few seasons ago.
Hull badly need new midfield players following the departure of Quinn on a free transfer.

Hull City transfer talk: Cardiff's Peter Whittingham wanted to fill midfield void

Whittingham wanted to bolster City midfield
HULL City's need for new midfielders has become more pressing with the exit of Stephen Quinn on a free transfer and at the top of Steve Bruce's wish-list is Cardiff star Peter Whittingham.
The 30-year-old has been a Cardiff favourite since arriving in South Wales from Aston Villa in 2007, making over 350 appearances for the Bluebirds.
Whittingham was part of a Cardiff side promoted out of the Championship alongside the Tigers in 2012-13 and Bruce is said to be keen on the player's skill and experience.
City desperately need midfield reinforcements following the exit of Quinn and the ongoing suspension of Jake Livermore, who is awaiting a Football Association hearing over a failed drugs test.

If they offer a pretty decent fee then I would let him go.

Hope not, not the player he was, but selling a good player to our rival, silly thing to do
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:12 pm
Personally I hope he stays with us. Played correctly he could be back to his best this season. Also been a great servant to the club. Not many players show loyalty to a club nowadays.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:13 pm
Id think he is one of the higher earners the amount of contract renewals he has had, he doesn't fit Slades rigid 4-4-2 and young Ralls is coming through so I think its maybe time for him to move on.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:14 pm
great servant..great player on his day...but have his legs gone????
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:16 pm
What legs ?

Luke, Whitts is on well over £20,000 a week basic.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:17 pm
Yeah, could potentially be a big player for us but been played out of his best role for ages. Not as good as he used to be and if they offer £2m plus then I'd say we should consider letting him go. Will be gutted though. Think Whitts is a top bloke and one of my favourite players from the past 20 years.

Anything near £100 I would bite there hands off
He's well over rated
Slow in pace and mind now
Had one season scoring 20odd goals 13 from the penalty spot haha some on here think that made him a prolific goal scorer
His best pass in his locker is now a two yard pass back to where it came from
Oh and he's allegedly been loyal to us by renegotiateing his contract ( in his favour obviously) every time he's been mentioned to be interesting another club
He's stayed with us for the money and lack of ambition fact oh and his wife is a penarth girl and would not re locate anyway
Hull is defo a no no IMO
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:33 pm
Absolutely yes
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:33 pm
We must keep all our best players and Whitts is still one of them. Had a disappointing season, but so did a lot of others like Gunnars and Noone.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:36 pm
Best footballer at the club a bargain if he's only on 20 grand madness to let him go

He's well over rated In your opiniun
Slow in pace and mind now Never had much pace and he's working to Slades tactics
Had one season scoring 20odd goals 13 from the penalty spot haha some on here think that made him a prolific goal scorer 83 goals in 373 appearances for City is a very good return for a midfielder especially one who has been played out of position in recent years.
His best pass in his locker is now a two yard pass back to where it came from Slades tactics again
Oh and he's allegedly been loyal to us by renegotiateing his contract ( in his favour obviously) every time he's been mentioned to be interesting another club ....and other players don't do this!?
He's stayed with us for the money and lack of ambition fact oh and his wife is a penarth girl and would not re locate anyway Hull is defo a no no IMO Again a lot of players are in the same situation all over the country. Personnaly I'm glad she won't move.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:45 pm
I would definitely keep Whitts. One of our most skillfull players & Im not surprised a fairly big club with a top manager are interested.
Most of the season he wasn't great but bar a couple of our players who was?
The people saying he's shit are probably the same ones who cursed out Gary Medel - and there were quite a few on here doing that because he want spraying fifty metre passes & dribbling past three players.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:47 pm
He's the only player who wants to have the ball and do something with it when we are in possesion. Youll probably find he was involved in tha majority of our goals last season and probably every season since he's been here.
Yes, he may of scored a few from pens that one season he got 25... But lots of goals from penalties made Andy Johnson a 8mill player
He would be welcomed into any team in this league . But he doesnt needlessly run around like a headless chicken all game so people dont rate him.

What an absolute childish post and one expected by you Steve. Your hate for Whitts is really blocking out the real scenario

20.000 a week is nothing at championship level if you're worried about wages.
If they get rid, which I think they won't, then that just says it all. I'm not getting into another debate with you about Whitts but if you think that selling him for anything over £100 is justified then that just says everything about you and I'm glad you're not our manager. Christ he must have really pissed you off or done something to your family for you to have so much hate for the man, it beggars belief.
For the record, if we do sell him then he will come back and bite us on the ass guaranteed, if we do sell then anything less than £2m would be absurd. Slade will never replace Whitts just because he doesn't have the desired pull to attract any player other than league one or two as that's his level, the good league one and two players will not join us end of. It's going to be a long hard season yet again
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:53 pm
We better not sell him, even if he's not gna play every week he needs to be kept he's our best ball playing midfielder

I think we don't get value of money any more off whitts if they offer a good free I would get rid maybe ralls will come good now
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:58 pm
For me hasnt had his heart in it for a couple of years now. Plays too deep and doesnt offer the attack anything near what he should be.
Great servant but I think a move is best for all parties
Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:59 pm
Definately hope he is not, the reason being is a proper manager will work with whitts strengths and bring the best out of him....his legs havent gone hes just probably pissed off like most of the other team with the shite formation/tactics that the idiot in charge made them play last season....with another season of them to come yet.
Before we all jump and defend slade - we all know (or the ones that have watched the city pre 2004) that last season we played the same if not worse than when we won the playoffs..We have gone back 10 years under slade and the sooner we get rid of him the better.
Ill support any manager at the club but I've a feeling come end of august we will be positioned 13-18th in the league.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 1:01 pm
Definitely keep, if we sell him we willl regret it. Wiht the right tactics he will excel.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 1:06 pm
He has before - he will again...For me he was always played best when he scored that hattrick against Sheff u away, he was always making runs into the box or sitting on the edge...I cant recall him doing that very much last season because he was being played out of position.
Just like Le Fondre was, he use to murder us when he played for reading, last season he had a deflected goal a tap in from 1/2 yard and another goal....goes to Bolton is played in the correct position and knocks them in for fun.
Wed Jul 01, 2015 1:13 pm
Annis, Pete will again not leave Cardiff.
It doesn't matter how many different offers come in, he's settled here, has a long term relationship, owns properties and enjoys living in Cardiff. The only move that would potentially interest him is to go back to the Midlands, but as you rightly say he's on good money etc.
I'm quite shocked to hear you say he doesn't like football and see's it as a job. That's complete nonsense buddy, you're just making that up because he's laid back when he plays and is a laid back personality off the pitch. Poor from you. To say he can't wait to retire is just nonsense.

Not over rated, goals/assists every season and dictates play.
Had one season scoring twenty goals and countless seasons with ten plus (Even when played at holding midfield)
Best pass in locker is a two yard pass - heads gone
Could of left like Chopra, Jay, Jerome and Ledley before him, but stayed loyal to the club that gave him a chance
Has been given better contracts because he has deserved them after solid seasons year on year. If he's so bad why do countless clubs come in for him?
Since when did he get married pal? heads gone
