Could Sammy stay and then go to Cardiff?
Stay or go? Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi is set to become a free agent.

SAMMY AMEOBI is close to agreeing a new deal at Newcastle United, but could still leave St James’ Park this summer.
The 23-year-old has been offered a new contract on Tyneside, but so far there has been no confirmation about him committing to an extension.
Cardiff City are under the impression he will sign a new contract at his hometown club and they are ready to offer him a season-long.
Steve McClaren, the Newcastle head coach, will be working with the squad for the first day of pre-season training tomorrow when Ameobi will officially become a free agent.
But the compensation factor means it is more likely that he will stay for a further year, even if it means having to head out on loan if McClaren decides not to include him in his first team plans.
At this stage the Newcastle boss cannot afford to allow Ameobi to depart because of a lack of numbers. McClaren hopes, though, to have added a clutch of new players before the start of the campaign.
Ideally he will have fresh faces on board before Newcastle travel to the United States as part of their pre-season plans and they will face Milwaukee on July 14.
Ameobi, 23, has been linked with numerous clubs over the last nine months, including Real Sociedad and West Brom, but a drop to the Championship on loan could well be on the cards. Wolves as well as Cardiff are known to be keen.
McClaren has had to be patient to make his first signing and has urged managing director Lee Charnley to do a deal for Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel. The 22-year-old has three more years to run on his deal with Chelsea and spent last season on loan at AC Milan, although he is keen on playing in the Premier League.
Newcastle have knocked back a possibility of signing Schalke defender Joel Matip, but have contacted Monaco about £12m-rated Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour.

Cardiff City interested in signing Newcastle United’s Sammy Ameobi
News 24/7
Tues 30th June 2015
West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Cardiff City have all been linked with Newcastle United’s Sammy Ameobi.
Cardiff City are interested in signing Sammy Ameobi on loan from Newcastle United this summer, according to The Chronicle.
The 23-year-old is out of contract at Premier League outfit Newcastle today, but he has been offered a new deal.
Ameobi is contemplating whether or not to pen to paper on the new contract, and, according to The Chronicle, Cardiff want to sign him on loan for the 2015-16 campaign.
It has been reported that West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Real Sociedad have all been interested in the former England Under-21 international, but none of those clubs have made a firm offer.
Should Sammy Ameobi move to Cardiff City?
Ameobi has been part of the Newcastle first team for a while now, but he has yet to make a mark at St. James’ Park.
The winger is not guaranteed a place in the Magpies’ starting line-up and could make just 25 appearances in the Premier League last season.
In those 25 league matches, Ameobi scored just two goals, created only 21 chances, had a pass accuracy of 66% and a shot accuracy of 27%, and won 57 headers, 51 dribbles and 38 tackles.
Moving to Cardiff could be a good decision for Ameobi, who can then kickstart his career and get some valuable playing time.
The Bluebirds will be aiming for a top-six finish in the Championship next season, and the winger could play a vital role in that.
The fact that Newcastle have offered him a new contract shows that the club have faith in him and have him in their long-term plans.

It's not that they have faith in him, it's that if they did not offer him a contract they would not get any money for him, now if he goes they will get compensation

I've always thought he was a good player so wouldn't be surprised by this.
Anyone know how successful his loan to boro went? If it went well then surely they would be in for him and he wouldn't have to move very far.
